I think we are really feeling the loss of Flegs and Herbie more than I was anticipating. We had absolutely no go forward last night, compounded by the loss of Hass, and there's only so much Patty can do on his own.

I was thinking that we basically sacrificed herbie and flegs to keep Willison and Te Kura at the club (and upgrade Walsh); who when they fully develop are going to be unstoppable with Hass and Patty. We may have a tough 1 to 2 years, but the future of Hass/Patty/X-man/Te Kura is really exciting.
I don't think so. Herbie and Flegler would be handy but any team in the comp would be losing games with 1/3 of their cap missing from games. Its just pure bad luck at the moment. Our ability to attack, go forward etc was not hindered last night by the loss of Herbie or Flegler. It was our Defence, work in the ruck were all very very poor.

We scored 32 points this week. 38 points last week. Attacking is not our problem even without our stars.

Ezra wants to take over the game management when Reyno retires, what better practice is he going to get?

I would rather go down by 4 backing ourselves than taking the easy option.
Unfortunately retirement might be closer than we think.

We just need players that can leap higher, or are good at pretending they are leaping for the ball to take the other guy out.
Unfortunately our backline isn't the tallest. At one stage Mariner was just batting the ball dead because he wasn't going to outjump Coates from a standing start.

We clearly don't practice the short drop outs... it should be fucking routine where the ball is going, who is the one jumping and who are the ones he's going to drop it back to, if he doesn't take the catch himself.

We've got Cobbo at left centre now... he should always be going for it, but Ez, Sailor/Walsh, etc. should all be scrambling for it... they stand around ball watching.

Cows kick to Feldt and he knocks it back where people are scrambling everywhere... we've got no fucking idea when the short kick goes up even though Reyno is putting them on a dime.
Could't agree more. We lose it to every team no matter if we are doing the kickoff or the ‘catching’. Something the coaching staff should be all over.

All this doom and gloom about Reynolds is fucking crazy. What is this based on? Him crying? Because one of the most competitive players in the game is upset because he knows he will be out for a few weeks we have decided a retirement announcement is happening this week?

I think people are just concerned that he can't string a month of football together without getting injured. By the early reports, It's not even the same injury this time, but hopefully it's not anything major.

Maybe it is just bad luck. He was obviously frustrated and upset. Any talks of an immediate retirement is crazy though.

I do think he rushed back when he wasn't fully fit, due to the likes of Haas, Walsh and Piakura also being out. He probably felt that he had to be there. Maybe he just needs to take as long as he needs to get rid of any niggles.

I think we can mostly agree on the following :-

No more short restarts as the default. Throw maybe 1 in a game to spice it up, but we are no good at getting the ball back and it sets up the attacking team right on our line from tackle 1.

Someone needs to grab the reigns in attack when reyno goes off. Similarly, we need to be able to build pressure in attack with no reyno. We need to learn how to camp in the opposition's 20 for repeat sets.

We need to respect the ball more. No dumb blind flick passes while in heavy traffic out the back to no one.

Better last tackle options and better game management to close out the games.

Better defence on our line, especially on our left side. Mam can't do it all, cobbo needs to be more aggressive and assertive in defence. Get a bit of manu up ya selwin.

Taking the 2 points to go 4 up with the game on the line is a no no.

Shoot fletcher baker into the sun.

We are still an effective team that can score plenty of points, but to beat penriff in a gf we have to nail everything. No better time to iron out kinks than now.

Our first couple of sets after half time were terrible. What was discussed at the break you have to wonder. We just needed to grind out a few sets but there was either no runners or the carriers all looked for silly offloads.

The storms best tries were the Katoa ones which were backrow plays. Something we still badly need in times where Reynolds isn’t playing.

Tough game but closer than I thought it would be. I expected to lose by a large margin as soon as Reyno went off. This game does have me excited that by the end of the year our forwards could be Haas, Jenson, Carrigan, Piakura, Riki, Te Kura, Willison, Oates(sorry Kobe we need that backline cover). We just need to win some games during this injury period and the origin period(and learn how to get the ball back from short drop offs or erase them completely).

Do we train in high pressure situations? Do we train in a way where we don't... choke? Simple things like Staggs passing from the ruck... arthars not catching the ball. Sailor with his 'Sailorness'.

Like... Have we ever trained in a way where we had to execute the match winner under pressure and execute? Break the play into smaller simpler sections and finish it off?

My brain's going to explode from all this over thinking and over analyzing. Maybe we did play well and this is just a one off. But I'm sick and tired of us choking. Even if it isn't that big of a deal or that bad of a game. Maybe I'm overreacting 😅

This is what you get when you have a team full of young players who lack calm and composure in big moments. We play frantic, thoughtless footy and instead of methodically winding down the clock and closing out games, we hand the opposition opportunity after opportunity to steal the win, and then say 'oh how did this happen again?' when they take it. All it takes is one bad decision late in a close game to open up the opportunity for your opposition, and we are a football team with ALOT of bad decisions in us.

I love Patty, but I think he's yet to establish himself as a true leader (mostly because he's still very young and still developing his own game - I think it will come). Without Reynolds we have a group of young, exuberant, somewhat immature players and the most experienced players we do have aren't big leaders (Haas, Staggs, Arthars, Jensen).

I think the player who should really be trying to add to their game by stepping up and taking control of the team and leading by example and reigning in and providing some balance to the flahsy young players in the team is Billy Walters. Walters has the pedigree, the experience in the spine and the brains to step up and steer this team around with Reynolds gone, and I hope he does.

20 years of not being able to have nice things would probably be my main reason that I know that Reno is out for ages.

Agree. Walters was diabolical at leading the team around last night.
