If we are judging him on his entire career, no, he is not the best forward......YET. He hasnt been doing what he has doing now for all his career, only the last 3 or so years. having said that, if we went just off his last 3 years, then gallen is easily the best forward i have ever seen. webcke, civo, lazo all have nothing on him. he plays 80 mins EVERY week, not 50 - 60 the others could do at best. not only does he play 80 mins, but each of his hitups is aggressive, and more often than not has a chance of second phase play. the guy is a machine, and deserves all the praise he is getting. i HATE nsw, but i have nothing but respect for gallen. not only is he the hardest working player i have ever seen, he has also cleaned up his game and gone from being one of the most hated players, to one of the games shining lights.
totally disagree with all those on here saying he has to win something to be considered a great forward. he has held NSW and cronulla on top of his shoulders for years and its not his fault they lose. if he was in the broncos team (or another successful team like storm) and played for qld, i have no doubt he would already be considered the best forward ever seen. the guy is a machine and his workrate alone ranks him among the best.
also, i think because he has been playing backrow / lock for most of his career, people tend to instantly ignore any suggestion of him being the best prop around. if he had been at prop for his entire career, there would be far less conjecture. the guy has been playing prop all his career, and since nsw moved him there officially last year we have seen him step up yet another level. right now, he is the best forward i have ever seen and definitely the best prop / forward in the game.
