Problem we have is you have to have one in your squad. Nikorima is a running 5/8 also and I won't go into Strasser too much as I have not seen a lot of him. All I know is that he has played about half a season of Q cup in the halves

Nikorima can at least throw a quality pass and has a kicking game.

When Hodges is back I'd have him as attacking fullback with Hoffman as defensive fullback and Barba at 5/8. Hodges is one our best players, we need him more involved.

Then expect him to spend a lot more time on the sideline ....injured.

btw, to those who criticized Gillett for running too laterally/dancing about ... maybe it's because no one was running in support calling for the ball?

I still think our support play sucks, and Gillett in my book is a ball playing back rower who is sadly under utilized

Mate our whole forward pack.is under utilized. Still can't get over Kennedy playing 19 minutes.

I just discovered a new favourite past-time. Trolling in the Kennel forum.

It proves that Dogs do bite.

They were having a go at Broncos for backing up Kennedy. I had to remind them of their embarrassing carry on when Lowrie was knocked out.

Please don't. If you troll their forum then they're likely to troll our forum. Find a better past-time.

Gillett ran a lot straighter in the 2nd half, it was fantastic to see.

He did dance a bit it in the first though, but yeah, he did receive pretty poor ball.

Interesting to note that all our points involved Hunt. Hunt to Barba for the first, Barba to Hunt for the second and finally Hunt to Copley,Gillett and finally Maranta. At least that part of his game was excellent. I too thought Hoffman was totally ineffectual with a slow and cumbersome kicking game.

When in possession Hoffman must go to fullback and Barba has to be the five eight. Barba was integral for our first two tries and he was right next to Gillett when the final try was scored. He was always looking for the ball. To some extent Hoffman was out of the play towards the end of the last try but not really at fullback.

I was really happy with the attitude overall and the fitness levels were much improved. We will definitely need to improve another 10% to trouble the top sides but this performance bodes well. I expect we will be mid table if last nights game is a true reflection of the season to come.

I watched the Papua / Redcliffe game after and boy, we sure could use at least three of their players and the fitness would not be an issue. I reckon with them we could be top four. The games standard lost nothing by comparison with the NRL.

backs

barba : outstanding saved our asses on numerous occasions and showed glimpses of whats to come this year from the back, didnt get many kick returns because of us giving away penalties every time we didnt have the ball but was very safe and added a bit of spark from second receiver ( will love having hodges outside him)

vidot : did alot of work out of our red zone and took pressure off our forwards. definately need a big fast winger like this.

reed : terrible and slow. is in real trouble when hodges gets back and was completely outclassed by copley. added no spark to our attack what so ever.

copley : great first game back, handled one of the best centres in josh morris and had some nice touches. the big step looks like a good weapon this year

maranta : loved finally seeing him in a bit of open space. got to see that so called pace ive been hearing about but never seen in the last 2 years. was very solid tonight but has to keep it up consistantly or oates will push him out

hoffman : stood up in defence other then getting run over by t rex but good luck with that. tried hard but doesnt posess the skill set for a 5/8. would of been better in reeds centre spot with niko in the halves

hunt : decent first half, passing game was good but kicking was terrible. cannot control a game on his own. he needs a good long range kicker to partner him in the halves or we will be in trouble against better teams

Probably echoing a few things here.

Vidot was massive. Someone mentioned it before but we haven't had that punch from deep in our own half since Sailor/Tuquiri. And his try... We haven't had a finisher like that for a long time that can just use his muscle to get over the line (Tame Topou maybe?). He could be a real sensation out there.

I'm going to be fair and give Maranta a huge wrap - great game under the high ball and he finally scored a pressure play try! Effort son.

Copley - he's gaining in confidence as well, crucial line break - if he can keep building and using his frame, we've got a big powerful backline. Especially when Hodges comes back.

Barba, the guy really showed some classy touches, he is gold. He'll just need to start gelling more with the team.

The boys are rusty and really low on confidence but there is so much talent in this team, we just need to get a few wins on the board and start believing in ourselves.

Fair call - against a better opposition we would have gone down, the Dogs had us well and truly on the ropes and if Finucane scores we are in big trouble.

Reminds me at (10:23) Copley makes a game changer break and draws a penalty. The whole fucking team should have rushed in to give him a pat on the back.

Not one player even gave him a high 5.

Is that a reflection of his place in the pecking order, the team's lack of unity or just suprise?

Good gutsy win.

Although Hunt confirmed what we all already knew. What ever Parra want us to pay for Sandow, we must do it. Sandow has half a clue at least. I didn't see one good kick from Hunt.

Vidot was awesome.

Maranta left me speechless

Defence was solid. Looked like they were playing for each other.

Kennedy bent the line a bit but needed to get more involved

When we are fully fit we need

1.Barba
2. Hoffman
3. Oates
4. Hodges
5. Reed/Maranta (if he can replicate his performance consistently)
6. Kahu
7. Sandow

That back line actually looks dangerous

Are you seriously trying to tell us that if Parra want us to pay 500k of Sandows wage, we should do that. what have you been smoking?

I mentioned this during the match in the live game discussion thread. It really bugged me, especially after the way the Dogs were carrying on when Pritchard nailed Lowrie on that hit-up.

Copley jumps up and claps his hands, clearly pumped, clearly expecting pats on the back from everyone for a massive play and he gets nothing.

It really disappointed me.

To be honest I think the would have done that in a earlier stage of the game, but were just to tied at that time.
