Got the twins playing and changed this stuff. With everything else that was already there.

Inglis was out pretty much the whole season. Granted, Maguire contributed to that by keeping him on the field with a busted knee.

Would Souths have gone as well this year without Inglis?

Cook had a career year, but I can’t help but see the similarity between him and the 2013 Isaac Luke in attack. Not-so-coincidentally, the Burgess bros were on song, and there was a pretty obvious call where the hooker would signal that they’re coming in for a scoot and whoever was playing the ball would lunge or “trip” forward and take out the markers. It gave Cook/Luke more space than they were entitled to and was as critical to their overall power play as tunnel-ball was for the Roosters. Cook however is a much better defender than Luke ever was or will be.

We haven't seen seibold fail like Maguire either.

True mate, but Seibold has only had one year at it. Look I'm certainly not against him being our coach, but just feel the board will be jumping the gun based purely on what he did this season. As people have said, JD is a bit of an unknown quantity too. At least Maguire has a premiership to his name.

We haven’t seen Seibold win a premiership like Maguire. His team did choke pretty bad in his their last game though.

Seibold has been a coach for 1 year, and Maguire did very similar in his first season as Rabbitohs coach ... so let's compare Maguire's first year with Seibolds first year.

Michael Maguire:

16 wins | 8 loses
finished regular season in 3rd
559 points for | 438 points against | +121
made preliminary finals (2 finals loses | 1 finals win)

Anthony Seibold

16 wins | 8 loses
finished regular season in 3rd
582 points for | 437 points against | +145
made preliminary finals (2 finals loses | 1 finals win)

FTR. in Maguire's second season, the Rabbitohs finished the regular season in 2nd position (also making the prelim), before winning the comp in his 3rd season

Wow, those stats are that similar it's not funny! Can Seibold remain on the same upwards trajectory as Mag though?

Ivan Henjak & Anthony Griffin. Two elite coaches who did as much as Seibold in their first years coaching if I remember rightly.

Weighing in Seibold's favour is that he is apparently well educated outside of footy and comes across as intelligent. Hook doesn't exactly come across as a member of Mensa to me, and I've repressed all my memories of Henjak.

Big questions have to be asked of Souths and how they plan to fill the void of Angus Crichton. Crichton was the best edge running backrow in the competition and his most likely replacement as everything stands is Kyle Turner. Unless Bayley Sironen, Lucky Taavale, Keaon Koloamatangi or Tarquinn Butler can come of age, they're in serious trouble.

The only signing of note is Corey Allan, and he hasn't played a single minute of NRL footy. Maybe he'll be a revelation at the back and provide South Sydney with more attacking options. On the face of it, it's difficult to imagine Allan providing more than Alex Johnston did in 2018. Also if Allan comes into the 17, that means one of Robert Jennings, Campbell Graham and Alex Johnston will have to miss out.

I still expect to see them make the 8, but if Seibold signs with the Broncos, he's not going to leave a great legacy behind him.

I see the reasoning behind Maguire but you can't disregard his downfall as well.

Cameron Murray, dean britt ??

Both would be playing out of position.

Going by reports earlier in the season, it sounds like that's what is going to happen.

Murray is seen as Crichton's replacement. There has even been word of Burgess moving to the second row and Murray playing lock.

I recall him playing in the second row for the 20's side, so I don't think it's going to be a foreign position for him.

Maguire has won multiple premierships.

I don't care about the esl us Wigan and Leeds were sharing premierships back then. So 1 nrl premiership the same as ricky stuart , enough said.

which is still more than Seibold, JD and Walters have combined

Murray was named there seven times two years ago, but there's no telling whether he played on an edge or how effective he was in the position. Based on everything he's shown in the top grade, he's a middle forward and Souths will be negatively affecting one aspect of their game just to fill another.

No , one is a lock and one is a backrower . Check Souths team list and britt has wraps on him , same as Murray

OK, try telling that to the North Sydney coach or Seibold.

Not really the thread for it, but the forward pack Souths should be trotting out next season is -

8. G.Burgess
9. Cook
10. T.Burgess
11. Sutton
12. S.Burgess
13. Murray

Sam was slowing down quite a bit last season, thought it was his worst NRL season to date, moving him to the edge should prolong his career and allow him to inject himself more irregularly, but with more impact.
