2019 Broncos Line-up

Mmmm, beg to differ. The club with the best record against the Storm is Cronulla I believe. I wrote about this two years ago, Cronulla used the oldest technique from the rugby league playbook, bash **** out the *****.

I prefer when you use this kind of language. :)

Completely disagree.

Swap Macca and Friend and there would be little difference. Friend’s benefit is he is passing to Cronk, Keary and Tedesco, not KNik, Milf and Boyd. That gulf in class is the difference right there.

You must be seeing something I haven't in Macca. Here's just one clip of Jake Friend. In what parallel universe can Macca pass like this?

This is so on the money. I've watched McCullough from the beginning and I've never seen that skill.

Friend is better than Macca. In general there is a lack of good 9s in the comp

Smith is quite easily the best. Comparatively he is easily the best in the comp. I can't think of another player who is that far ahead of everyone in his position.

In the really good tier I'd have
Cook
Farah
Hodgson

After that in the okay to good tier
Friend
Peats
Macca - kind of

Then the rest are bog average or pretty shit.

It's definitely one of the weakest positions competition wide and it's why Macca hasn't been replaced, not because he's particularly good but because there simply is no good replacements out there and once a club finds a good 9 it's very hard to sign them away, no one has depth there.

It's a position where it seems as though there is a correct size, a goldilocks size. They all seem similar or am I just imagining that?

Friend is currently better than Macca, but he wasn't when the Origin teams were selected last year. Friend's worst is way worse than McCullough's worst. Macca is not even close to being the worst in the comp and anyone who says he is has to be trolling

His workrate is exceptional but his passing game is by far the worst. He also seems to suck all the life out of our creativity. You would think his absence would leave a massive hole in our defence, but the games he missed last year didn't reflect that, and of course, our attack suddenly morphed into us looking like contenders.

That video sums up my view of Friend. Jake backs himself on every play and while it can look spectacular, he has a tendancy to overplay the situation and doesn't trust his team-mates enough. In that situation, the 15m pass behind the play was unnecessary and ultimately resulted in a turn-over. Not content to leave things the way they were, Jake then has to give Souths a penalty and invite them down his end.

Against the Titans. A team that would have struggled against a reserve grade Broncos team last year.

Except for that time they beat us when McCullough happened to be playing.
Except that has nothing to do with how terribly they played on the day. Also we were also good with Alex Glenn at hooker for that game.

There’s no Macca highlights on YouTube, anyone able to go through 11 seasons of games and make one? Shouldn’t be too hard. :dancer2:

The trouble with Macca is his stats flatter him. He leads the comp's tackle count week after week, and he makes few mistakes. On paper, he's like the first guy picked.

Which means he's not someone you can tell to try harder or send to the lower grades to get his act together. He is what he is, and unfortunately, it's not the full package. It's a brutal coaching decision to tell a guy who consistently busts his guts week in, week out, and does nothing wrong, he's surplus to requirements.

It doesn't help that neither Kodi nor Milford seem capable of calling the shots either. If we had an alpha playmaker in the halves maybe we could carry's Macca's deficiencies ball in hand.

We beat Souths, Roosters and Manly convincingly during Macca's absence. You saw what happened when he returned.

The Damien cook highlights go for 1:05.

Bullshit. The trouble is simply that there is nobody at the club better than him and telling him that he’s surplus to requirements would be a blatant fucking lie. A hooker doesn’t call the shots. Cameron Smith does but nobody else can or should. If we are judging players on how similar they are to Smith, every single player in the game is shit.

McCulloughs passing is fine. He doesn’t throw the ball to nobody like Granville does and he doesn’t throw the ball to people’s heads like Nikorima does. He’s even obviously worked on it since last year. The fact that we are talking about him after the game on Thursday is bullshit because we did not lose because of him and he didnt do anything wrong in that game
