Half a report

He kinda grew into the game which is normal for an 18yo on debut. Towards the end he was trying to take charge by barking orders, getting into dh, getting his hands on the ball multiple times in a set.

He wasn't amazing but he looked like he fit the part and will only get better.

I was disappointed that a lot of the times he got the ball, everyone else was out of position and not pushing up in support. He would look around and there was no one to pass too. Just lazy from the rest of the team.

Agreed, I commented on that in the thread last night. But perhaps with a bit more time he'll gain the authority to start giving orders and having his team mates respect him.

At one point from dummy half I think there was nobody except Boyd to pass it to, whose body language was screaming not to pass it to him. So Dearden passed it to him anyway and made him take a run.

I just hope Milford doesn't continue to act like the halfback and lets Dearden take over that responsibility.

I think in that instance Oates was coming in for the second hit up but for whatever reason Dearden didn't pass it to him and instead went to Boyd who was behind the ruck with zero intent to run.

Not sure why Dearden didn't go to Oates as him running on the second is our MO, maybe he saw him too late and didn't want to throw it forward or throw him a hospital

I was saying it as a positive thing, I think it's a good sign he's shovelling it off to our captain and making him do something.

Yeah I thought the same thing at the time... it was like have a f.cking run

Was just clarifying that there was actually a player there ready to run it... as the same instance has been posted a few times already.

It is also quite likely the team had no idea what he was going to do. That is fair enough, they’ve been training with KNik at 7 and would barely know what Dearden likes to do.

Boyd injured and absolutely flogged out of the game before that anyway. Falcons pressure was tremendous. They hurried his kicks, they ran at him- just a horrible day.

Paix see above slightly better at 48-0 and not 72-4 but still not a single positive.

Are we talking about Todd Murphy yet?

He’s nearly 30 and played just over 100 ISC games at four clubs he’s probably been talked about a lot.

Didn't realize he's that old. Probably rules him out of contention then. Having a bumper season.

He's in the same sort of category as Darren Nicholls for me, generally in the top 2-3 halves in NSW/QCUP, but just not quite good enough to crack a regular first grade role.

Wasn't Murphy being turned into a 9?

I remember reading on here he was training at hooker with the aim of turning him into one.

A goal-kicking hooker with a bunch of experience, from the team that's caning the comp, wouldn't be the worst bench experiment...

Murphy was in line to make his debut last year, but his trial form failed to sway Bennett. Todd was extremely loose around dummy half and was guilty of making some soft handling errors.

I couldn't blame Bennett, but I've always had a soft spot for Todd. He's one of those players who likes to be in the thick of the action and never dies wondering.

Nicholls is another who should have played more football than he has. He's one of those players you wish was contracted to the NRL on a Mary Poppins contract where he can fly into a club missing a halfback and he can fill in for a few weeks. In the NFL players like him are dime a dozen, but with Nicholls it always seems like he's stuck at a club where the halves are settled and opportunities are hard to come by.

Nicholls and Murphy remind of of a player like Luke Capwell. Very good Queensland cup players, but just not quite good enough for the NRL.

I liked what I saw of Nicholls when he was with us, but with Hunt and Milford entrenched in the side, he wasn’t a legitimate option. Unfortunately his few games for the Dragons were pretty horrendous so I don’t see him getting any further shots in first grade
