Rookie of the year race

Haas was on 10 points when the Dally M was last public (leader was on 15). He is in contention for that, and would probably win it if he wasn't banned for the first four rounds given he is always one of the best on the field, so him winning ROY should be a formality.

I doubt they’ll give ROTY yo a Bronx player two years in a row. It should be Haas but it’ll end up being Paps

If Haas keeps up the form he is in now, he should be ROTY, MVP, an All Star, Allan Border Medalist, the Brownlow medalist and ring the Bell at Bells Beach.

The bloke is in another galaxy compared to the rest of the field.

FTR; Fifita would be bridesmaid if he were eligible.

There hasn’t been a forward that has as much potential as these 2 since Dave Taylor and what makes this even more exciting is that they both seem much more intelligent and laser focused than poor old Dave.

Eligibles - Cannot have played more than three NRL matches the season prior. If a player made his debut the season before last, they're no longer eligible (aka the Taukeiaho rule). English Super League players are ineligible for the award.

he would still be eligible to win the Dally M, as it was a club imposed suspension for off-field behaviour, not a suspension imposed by the NRL for on field conduct

Not only is Payne Haas the rookie of the year, he's better than any other other winner from the past decade including Daly Cherry-Evans. You would have to go back to Israel Folau to find anybody in his league and considering the way Izzy treated his career you could certainly argue he's got him and Hayne beat as well.

I'm sorry but there's no race or conversation to be had. Haas is streets ahead and if his season ended tomorrow (knock on wood) he'd still be head and shoulders the best candidate.

Haas, Nikora, Xerri, Sivo, Garrick, To'o are the only contenders imo. To'o hasn't played enough games, so you can put a line through him, Garrick & Sivo have a similar claim, both have played a majority of games for their side, scoring a lot of tries, etc. Xerri is a good player, but hasn't really had the statistical output good enough to make a real claim for it, has lots of down games, a little bit over-hyped by the Sydney media. Haas is the clear Rookie of the Year, with daylight 2nd.

there is one big thing going against Haas ... he plays for us!

is the NRL going to want to give one of our players ROTY, two years in a row
But he's a welshman, of cause they will.

Wow when you look at the amount of players Broncos could have in contention for this one award its quite staggering.

Eleven players all vying for rookie of the year from one team!

We should get some sort of award for helping develop talent and introducing young kids to the NRL at least.

If we manage to keep them all together we're going to have an absolute unstoppable killer group in a few years time.

Well summed up. Naden has been pretty impressive as well.

5. To’o
6. Brown
7. SOS
8. Haas (roty)
9. Turpin
10. Flegler
11. Nikora
12. Tino
13. Carrigan

Honorable mentions: Sivo, Brailey and Okunbor

The thing I thought was interesting were the dogs and titans... both teams have had wretched years yet each team has only debuted 2 rookie players each.

The season is gone and they're not looking to blood young guys to see who's built for the comp... both teams also under huge salary cap pressure and should be looking at value for money players; yet they continue to pick spud depth players.

There was a period where Haas wasn't as effective while the other candidates went up a gear.

I don't see how Haas could be the front runner.
Was this period Rounds 1 to 4? Not really sure I've seen a game yet where Haas wasn't effective.

Haas is so far ahead of all the other rookies it's not even funny.

If he doesn't win ROTY then there's obviously some bias because even Stevie Wonder can see Haas is without a doubt the ROTY and probably the best front rower in the NRL currently.

He'll be our POTY as well.

The media is now starting to care about juniors all of a sudden now that the turbo brothers are at risk of leaving manly.
