2020 Round 1 Line up

1. Isaako/bird
2. Farnsworth
3. Staggs
4. Isaako/bird
5. Oates/Coates
6. Milford
7. Dearden/paix
8. Lodge
9. Seggy/turpin
10. Haas
11. Fifita
12. Glenn/Gillett
13. TPJ
14. Seggy/turpin
15. Offa
16. Glenn/ Gillett
17. Carrigan/flegler

Depending on going to the market and players being moved on ,I think we should keep one of our rookie halves in the team fulltime. They need experience and quickly, I also believe Milford is better at 6. Am happy to get a fullback but I'm not sold on Holmes at 1 , he's anything but an accomplished 1.

He won sharks player of the year in the first (and only) year he played at fullback.

For me he’s perfect, no one can doubt he proved himself as a winger - as all young fullbacks seem to do. And then when he transitioned to his preferred position he was still the best player on the field.

Might be a long shot but I wonder if Sharks would trade Johnson for Bird.

One year dosen't matter a lot , don't get me wrong I think he's a class player. But barba won dally m fullback of the year once , sometimes it's just a one off season.
All I'm saying is he isn't the complete package as a 1 looking that we'd be up for $900k+ for him. He's not a Munster, ponga type imo

I'm basing this team on what we have right now and how we can make best use of our roster.

1 Bird
2 Farnworth
3 Staggs
4 Shibasaki/ Boyd ( mainly because i really dont see another genuine option at left center )
5 Oates
6 Milford
7 SoS
8 Lodge
9 Turpin
10 Haas
11 Fifita
12 TPJ
13 Carrigan ( C )

14 Gillett / Macca
15 Joffa
16 Flegler
17 Glenn ( if he stays )

We than have Dearden pushing for a halves spot, Issako and Perese for wing, Seggy if he stays for the 14. I dont see the likes of Coates anywhere near ready yet tbh.

Of course, i'm hoping we can bring in 2 or 3 players, mainly at halfback, left center and Fullback. then the team will look a lot different.

Yeah lets not fall into the 1 good year trap again, that's what landed us with Milford on 7 figures

I don't see the need to hold Dearden back. He looked fine before he got injured, yes he was a little tentative but 18yo halfbacks in their first few games in FG tend to be.

He's either our long term HB or he's not. If he is, pitch him in and let him grow.

I think he was a left center at cronulla
Interesting, Farnworth was great on the wing in his short stint and we are in need of a left centre and isaako sucks out on the left wing...

There is another way....If we wanted to entertain the idea.

1. Bird/Holmes
6. Milford
7. Signing
9. Turpin/Segeyaro

14. Dearden

This is just a personal thing, but I think it would be fantastic for Dearden's development if he went back to 20 minute stints as a utility for awhile. It eases him into first grade more gently and still allows us to sign an experienced playmaker which is sorely needed. Turpin and Sege can compete for the starting hooker role.

I am just really not keen on repeating mistakes made by others e.g Ash Taylor

It’s not just one year though is it... he made the Australian team playing out of position and is a record holder for most tries in a game / World Cup... he made origin playing out of position and he was amazing.

He transferred to his favorite position and won player of the season... he was never picked in any schoolboy teams or rep teams as a kid and yet look at him now. Effort and skill is not an issue.

The only downside is experience. But I can almost guarantee, if he is playing 1 for Bronx next year... then Kalyn Ponga will not be the QLD fullback

You say he is not a Munster or Ponga type... personally I think he is better

I'd go:

1. Milford
2. Coates
3. Staggs
4. Oates/Perese/Whoever grabs it in pre-season
5. Farnworth
6. Sezer/Whoever
7. Dearden
8. Lodge
9. Turpin
10. Haas
11. Fifita
12. TPJ
13. Carrigan (c)

14. Paix
15. Joffa
16. Flegler
17. Glenn

Was just thinking, if Bird does leave and we are not paying too much of his salary, why don't we go all out and throw 700k or so at Cronk for a year. Convince him to postpone retirement. The added bonus is Dearden gets one helluva mentor for 12 months!

I'm sure Cronk won't be interested now that he's settled in Sydney, but you just never know sometimes. It would also solve our captaincy dilemma for a year until Carrigan takes over in 2021. To see Cronk in a maroon and gold jersey is the stuff dreams are made of.

You think he'll also receive the dozens of late hit penalties here in Brisbane?

Look it's a million to one chance of happening, but can you imagine the improvement we'd see in this team if we had the ultimate professional in Cronk steering us round the park for a year until Dearden was ready.

It's audacious to even consider the possibility, but god almighty imagining Cronk in a broncos jersey with the (c) against his name blows every other possible option out of the water. Even for just 1 year it would be worth it.
