Round 1 Lineup

Moving on from Bennett was the correct call ... hiring Seibold as his replacement was the wrong call ... although IMO, it may have been beneficial for Kevvie in the long run as following Bennett has always been a poisoned chalice
Bennett and Seibold spot on. Kevvie not so sure, we’ll have to wait and see. But I thought Seibold, coach of the year was the answer, so what do I know.

I’m not sure matching the Titans offer would have been a good idea either, but I don’t think we’d have had to. If we could have got near the $1m mark, adding $150k a year on top of our reported existing $850k offer, I think that would have been enough to retain him.

If not, well at least we’d have had $1m to throw at other players to boost our overall squad, but due to cap miss-managment we apparently do not have that money, so ifs and buts is all this discussion will remain.
Should have signed him up before the point of no return. If we had switched on negotiators perhaps it would have happened. Clearly ex- footballers have no place in such matters.

What?

I said our 21 squad is worse than our 20 squad. I never mentioned the Titans...

Maybe have a lie down mate and get your thoughts together...
I know you didn't mention the Titans but I'm trying to point out that the pessimistic outlook doesn't seem to be appropriate. If we consider the parallels, the similarities between the teams at the start of each season I can see plenty of reasons to be optimistic.

The Broncos are starting season '21 with a team that I consider superior to the Titans team of '20. They started as wooden spooners, with a couple deadwood players and a brand new coach just like we are.

We now know they went on to have a pretty darn good season considering their starting position. My point is we can do the same and we start with a team that's even better (in my opinion)

I'm not trying to be a shithead here, I just want to highlight that we're in a better position than it might appear, the evidence that success is very achievable is nearby and obvious and it's not unreasonable, based on recent history to feel some optimism.

I was bit of a twat in my response. Sorry about that.

Fair enough, I of course HOPE we do better. 2020 was awful as a Broncs supporter. I hope the boys come together as a team and play to their strengths and Kevvie comes up with a gameplan to suit, that they understand and work together to implement.

But I’m not sure the squad he has is as good as the 2020 was, nonetheless and I expect improved performance, but nothing in the way of material success for the year.

As much as I’d actually like us to, my expectation is that we will not make top 8 come end of year...

Our most glaring weakness IMHO, is a problem we have had for years, is a distinct lack of obvious smarts. It’s something we seem unable or unwilling to address. We’re strong, fit, skilled and all that. We just also seem incredibly stupid...

No disagreement. I suppose someone else probably has said this already but I think a critical piece missing is a true Captain. Don't misunderstand me here but although I definitely was not a member of the Hate Boyd club I never believed he was or at least had all of the prerequisite strengths of a captain.

Contrary to most on here I didn't think Boyd was a failure especially last season. What he wasn't was a great captain and that's okay, so few are. What we really need is a true Captain, talented as an athlete but superior as a leader. Carrigan may become that in time but we need one now. For quite some years now we've had default leaders and if I was KW it would be my second highest priority with brick wall defence first. That would be my search, not just a player but a leader of men. Someone you just cannot fail.

Possibly, although I'm not sure Arthur is confident in Blake's defence either so I could see him playing either side.

11. Glenn (c)
12. Flegler

17. Riki

No idea who I have forgotten.

I know everyone is creaming over Walsh (and i am too, shhh) ... but i really don't want to rush the kid, he looks to have a very big future with us.

so, i'd still start round one with Isaako at fullback ... i'd make sure Walsh is locked down tight (keep him on a development contract for 2021), and give him the first half of the season developing his game in the ISC ... then re-evealuate when we can play our development players.

Yeah exactly , Dearden needs experience around him atm . You cant have 2 youngsters thrown into our spine that has so many questions as it is, let's build a spine not manufacture one.
It's exciting that we could have 2 special talents that we can build from though, if we somehow pulled Smith than grant we could be back in big way.

Fast forward to 23 and the spine is:

1. Walsh
6. Staggs
7. Dearden / Walker
9. Grant

Yeah baby!

We aren’t getting Grant. Maybe B Smith
You can't predict that, once Bellamy leaves , and who knows if B Smith dosen't get the starting spot . I'm not suggesting we get him this year or next but Dearden and walsh could be a great selling point when he's off contract.

Man I don't know but that middle and left-side needs a shake up and I am just not sure what the answer is. I know this can't happen due to development contracts, etc but I think from the mediocre squad we have, it just has to be something like this:

1. Walsh
2. Mead
3. Farnworth
4. Niu
5. Coates
6. Milford (I liked Croft but the million dollar bloke isn't going to be left out)
7. Dearden
8. TPJ
9. Turpin
10. Carrigan
11. Glenn (c) (Is it too late to bring in Capewell? Glenn shouldn't be in the side but he is captain so yeah)
12. Riki
13. Asiata

14. Hetherington (We are desperate and he looks like he could be a forward/hooker hybrid and Paix just seems to have stagnated)
15. Flegler (Though he will probably be suspended)
16. Bullemor
17. Oates

Lodge is just too much of a liability in the crucial moments with his hands and once momentum turns, he just backpedals. He is welcome to find a new club.

I cannot believe we didn't bring in Allan for two seasons (unless he really didn't want to come back) and yeah, maybe we need to up our offer to Capewell, we are a desperate team.
