Round 1 Lineup

Man I don't know but that middle and left-side needs a shake up and I am just not sure what the answer is. I know this can't happen due to development contracts, etc but I think from the mediocre squad we have, it just has to be something like this:

1. Walsh
2. Mead
3. Farnworth
4. Niu
5. Coates
6. Milford (I liked Croft but the million dollar bloke isn't going to be left out)
7. Dearden
8. TPJ
9. Turpin
10. Carrigan
11. Glenn (c) (Is it too late to bring in Capewell? Glenn shouldn't be in the side but he is captain so yeah)
12. Riki
13. Asiata

14. Hetherington (We are desperate and he looks like he could be a forward/hooker hybrid and Paix just seems to have stagnated)
15. Flegler (Though he will probably be suspended)
16. Bullemor
17. Oates

Lodge is just too much of a liability in the crucial moments with his hands and once momentum turns, he just backpedals. He is welcome to find a new club.

I cannot believe we didn't bring in Allan for two seasons (unless he really didn't want to come back) and yeah, maybe we need to up our offer to Capewell, we are a desperate team.
Maybe they are thinking khunt after a couple of rounds , I'm not going to over react to that trial and let things run there coarse for a few rounds.

Win or lose made no real difference to me (although a win would have been good for their confidence), but how they played was vitally important.

Some good signs in the first half, but equally, far too many familiar 2020 signs in the second half.

I don’t want to cherry pick one player, but Isaako being terribly out of position, twice in a row for tries, was what really seemed to start the rot.

If we didn’t get the spoon last year by way of being absolutely terrible in second halves, it wouldn’t be so worrying. But you could replay that second half to just about anyone and they’d think it was from 2020.

It seems there is still lots of work to be done to avoid a repeat of 2020.

When you make zero recruits of note, lose some of the better players / at least serviceable players from your squad, what can you expect I suppose? It would have all made sense had we at least got some money from the exits but evidently, we didn't. So somehow a wooden spoon winning squad got worse, I still can't fathom that.

If Lodge and Carrigan are the starting front rowers we might as well not turn up.

That’s it. Where the **** has our salary cap gone? We lost a large chunk of our salary cap and got nothing in return really.
Maybe we are waiting for milfords contract to runout and we might be going to use that with the boyd and Fifita money.

How the **** can you say that Oates should be in that team over Lodge

Quite easily, Oates can cover forwards and backs. Lodge is a liability in second halves. Neither of them should be there but this is the state of this horrible squad.

You and many other people need to get a grip it was a trial game and cause our depth players played shit you want to blame the few people that actually put in semi respectable games and yes Lodge is one of them dumb ****... how about target that blame towards Oates, Kennar, Flegler and Paix they played woeful and their the reason we played so shit in that second half so for you to have a go at our prop for not running ‘hard’ enough at the line is fucken pathetic considering we had about 5% of possession in that second half and that is cause of a lack of discipline and plenty of errors from Oates, Kennar and Flegler (Paix is on the list cause he did **** all)

I have to be honest, I'm not seeing what all the hype is about when it comes to Carrigan. Anyone care to explain it? @Wolfie ?

How about we look at the players who played well
Isaako, Coates, Niu, Mead was quiet but not dreadful, Croft (was very pleased), Dearden (very pleased as well), Riki ( we have replaced fifta very well), Glenn (if we get 24 of those performances this year will be very happy), Pangai (did some good stuff and was quiet at times and finally Asiata played very well almost forgot Turpin as well

Hard done by list:
Lodge (1st half, 2nd half wasn’t great but still doesn’t deserve the comments he is getting), Carrigan (I thought he was alright, man needs a lot more fitness tho)
Isaako (was very impressive first half but like almost everyone second half was fairly questionable but by no means was he bad just tried a little to hard to be involved and lost his effectiveness)

It's been well covered. Sexy.

Seriously though, good stats, less impact in the outcome of games. Solid B player, so better than a lot of the squad.

It’s hard to agree with your assessment when the first player you say had a good game was Isaako.

Sure, he showed he can be decent in attack, but sometimes (and never more so than in the team that conceded the most points last season) the most important part of fullback play is defence, both their own and in how they organise the team.

In that regard, Isaako could not have been much worse. When the Cowboys started to rip us apart in the second half, he wasn’t communicating where he needed his frontline defence to be and he sure as shit wasn’t in position himself.

Did you watch Allan in the trial today... dogs didn't score a point in the first half against a shit sharks side... and Allan wasnt some miracle worker at fullback. Second half mostly occurred from dogs DH cutting them through the middle and some weak sharks defence close to the line and sharks making errors with the ball in hand.

The only change you made to the left side was adding Herbie who is going to be there come round 1 anyway.

Capewell is all well and good for this year but there's a huuuuge likelihood that Piakura takes that left edge spot this year if not next year (pending ISC form) so we'd be paying $550k for a back up 2nd rower (assuming you want Riki on the right edge over Capewell).

Long and short is we should've picked up Opacic for the $250-300k that parra got him for and we only actually need Capewell for this year to start and maybe next year if Piakura needs another year or the pandemic wipes ISC out for another year.

1. Isaako (Walsh pending ISC)
2. Coates
3. Niu (Staggs when fit)
4. Opacic (if we had a competent R&R team)
5. Herbie
6. Milf
7. Dearden
8. Lodge
9. Turpin
10. Haas
11. Capewell (assuming he didn't want to play off the bench in Penrith, otherwise you just have to live with Glenn for a year... Piakura next year)
12. Riki
13. TPJ/Asiata

14. Luke (so Paix can play a full year in ISC)
15. Carrigan
16. Flegler
17. Asiata/TPJ

The man wasn’t by any means great in defence in that second half but in saying that nobody was and secondly you sure as shit can’t fault him in attack that is the sole reason he is on that list (also he was 1st name because I went positional order)

Aren’t you making my point for me? I’m not talking about signing the likes of Allan, Capewell and possibly even Mann for the long term, I’m talking about filling in gaping holes until these kids coming through are ready. These guys do that and I want competition for spots, not just well that kid will be ready in two years so let’s just make do with rubbish in the mean time.

And that side I named is only from players we have in the squad currently.
