Totally agree. You bring in a gun half who actually performs to his pay packet and an experienced prop/second-rower in the form of Lui/Capewell/McGuire and two backs in Opacic and Gagai, this side looks heaps better. They need to bring in these solid NRL players/very good players to create better competition for spots among the kids. Make Flegler/Dearden/Niu/Carrigan/Bullemor/Piakura earn their spots.

For fullback, I'd be bringing in Hammer because he will be cheap and you open the fullback spot to whoever wants it more between him, Niu and Herbie.

Seen a fair bit of Hammer, and i reckon he isnt ready for fullback. When i saw him play there last year, he was very passive, not much talk and didnt really get involved. He needs to develop his game on the wing. Payten has been crazy making him play at center.

I dont think we could afford Gagai tbh, and i reckon the way Tommy has been going at Parra he may well get another contract there. If we give him a decent enough offer he may come back for family reasons, but seeing as he was a Parra fan growing up along with his old man ( despite him worshiping Locky ) i can see him staying there.

This Billy Walters thing is a concern for me. Why are we looking at somebody like him? He wont really improve on what we have in terms of where he plays. Complete waste of a spot in the top 30. We already have the likes of Gamble and Paix who can offer what he does.

Was gonna say it in the Mbye thread but couldn’t be bothered. it’s because he’s the coach’s son. Complete joke we are keeping a spot open for him, I don’t like it.

Im thinking we should definitely be looking in the Super League for a Playmaking 7, I really like the idea of Charlie Staines though, he came throug the best youth system in the compeition and even Penrith see him as a future 1, with our shit cap space we are going to have to look outside the box I think.

If the Tigers chipped in $500,000< (they won't) I'd consider it for the remainder of this season.

I honestly dont think there is a single half back in the Super league that would be any better than what we have. Williams Johnny Lomax can play there but is is 32 i think now but he is more a fullback who can play in the halves. Darryl Clark is about the only Super league spine player worth chasing hard. Williams was the standout English 7 and he's at Canberra.

He is that hooker that Titans have been linked to, he makes far more sense than Staggs to play 5/8th for them....

In fact, i hope he does sign for them soon, as then its obvious they arent all in on Staggs and we can take him back to the table with a more reasonable contract offer.

Some silver lining there...

Yeh ive read about Clune going to the Cows, but Hunts broken leg and no Clune means who is playing 7 for the Dragons...?

Moses Mbye:

“I would certainly look at the Broncos. At the minute, it looks like they are keeping a spot open for Billy Walters and he fits that mould of a No.14. I will wait and see what happens. The Broncos have a few players off-contract and they have a new coach in ‘Kevvie’ (Walters), so you never know what will happen with their roster. I’ve been coached by Kevvie in the Origin team so if an opportunity pops up at the Broncos, I would definitely consider it."

“I’m from Queensland so a return home has some appeal for me.”

“I haven’t spoken to the Cowboys formally but I won’t say no to them or the Broncos. If the Cowboys come to me, I’m more than happy to speak to them and weigh up what’s a good opportunity to play to my potential again. I will see there the dominoes fall in the next few months. I‘m fully committed to the Tigers for this season and if it turns out I’m required to play on here next year, I will honour my deal."

“Sometimes when you get into a little rut at a club, a change can ignite something. You see it all the time with new coaches and new players when they come into a club, they just get a fresher feel and that might be the case for me leaving the Tigers. I think I see myself in that No.14 utility spot moving forward. The game is really accommodating that position with the speed of the NRL. The faster pace allows the smaller man to play through the middle a bit more and I don‘t mind coming off the bench and making an impact when I come on."

“Over my career people have asked me if being a utility is a blessing or a curse. I haven‘t really nailed down one spot, but being versatile has given me some great opportunities, like being part of the Queensland Origin team."

“If the Cowboys or Broncos wanted me this year or next, I‘d consider it.”

As much as I'm not really keen on his signing, seeing a player speak so openly about signing with opposition clubs ( and even naming them and his reasons for being open to it ) is extremely refreshing. For once it's not a standard " I'll look at all options and see what's best for my family" line trotted out by most.

Nah I don't like it at all. If one of ours was to talk like this in the media I'd be pretty annoyed. It just strikes me as mercenary and removes any pretension of loyalty that might have remained.

See people mentioning SJ alot... The Shaun Johnson of the Warriors days was absolutely just a Milford Mk 2 but more variable - he would be more involved in the average game but 10% of his players were absolutely brilliant and another 10% were braindead and awful.
Since he's been at the Sharks he's had a real Benji-esque coming of age, where he's managed to transform his game and reign in the volatile extremes to become a solid, reliable spine option... It's been quite impressive to see.
With that in mind... he's too old, has too long of a track record of injuries and would want too much money for the Broncs to be seriously considering him in my opinion. Whether he could even replicate last year's efforts on a sustained basis and at a new (dumpster fire) team is also questionable.

Reynolds is a more intriguing prospect. He's rounding into the end of his career and seems intent on the 3 year contract - I don't think he trusts that his body holds out that long and his insistence on wanting a security blanket is definitely a concern... These are the types of late career contracts (Eg: Boyd) which have got us into trouble before... the decline can often be very steep and rapid for footy players. There's no doubt he's a fantastic talent - the type of which we sorely need at the Broncos, but I wouldn't be willing to go 3 years for him with knowledge of the fact that he's already on a modified training regime. 2 years with a mutual option for 3rd or something similar would be fine? Would be the perfect foil for young Dearden and slot straight in as a captain and organiser, but the contract term will be the stumbling block.

The less said about the prospect of Mbye in a Broncos jersey, the better.

Daryl Clark is a hooker he isn’t gonna play 6

true, my post was more about the cap space required to sign Clark, therefore unable to be used to sign Staggs.....if that mnakes sense...

Yeah I understand your point about cap I was just pointing out that he doesn’t play 6

It was reported they pulled their offer for Staggs about a week ago

I see Gareth Widdop has been reportedly shopped to the Broncos. Widdop can play unlike Moses Mbye but there was a reason no NRL team would take him last offseason. He has stuffed too many teams around he requested a release from his Dragons contract for sentimental reasons. And he is now doing the same with Warrington. I think his reason may be genuine this time with his kids being back in Australia. But If I was the Broncos I would still be weary.

Something has needed to be done about development for years. It’s a major issue that a team that has one of the biggest development programs in the broncos is coming last, and a team that does the least in development as the roosters. Has been the most dominant team of the decade.

we have so many past broncos in the NRL. Probably more than any other club. We need help retaining juniors. First deal up to 3 years should
He 50% off the cap.
