POST GAME [Round 20, 2021] Broncos vs Cowboys

Jordan Riki since his return to the side -

R18 - 1 try, 1 linebreak, 1 try assist, 6 tackle busts, 37 tackles
R19 - 3 tackle busts, 48 tackles
R20 - 1 try, 2 linebreaks, 1 try assist, 4 tackle busts, 45 tackles

We can stop the search for our long-term right edge back rower, it's him.

Great to get a win but some pretty questionable refereeing. Especially in the latter stages.

Outrageous that they overturned Feldt's second. Lost control? Never in possession, therefore only downward pressure required. Try everyday of the week.

If that's awarded, they're breathing down our neck with all they momentum.

Lucky to get Croft's challenge ruled in our favour, though not as egregious.

Feldt offside off the kickoff, fair enough, but felt like the fix was in by that stage.

We were the better team but poor refereeing sure took some of the shine off it.
He bounced it, man.

The fix was always Broncos by 1-12 but the cows flubbed it

He was excellent tonight but let’s get a few more games out of him like that before anointing him…

I thought it was a nervous lead at 28-12. Brisbane blew an opportunity to extend through Isaako and suddenly the Cowboys were beginning to get some arsey calls like that 'kick' from the Cowboys second rower to force a goal line drop out. I don't get that logic at all, it's like when a guy nutmegs himself, it's a knock on every day of the week but in this situation the referee was just trying to be too clever.

The game was beginning to turn on that Feldt try. Really disappointed in Oates, he just lost complete sight of Feldt so he didn't jam in and put in a really indecisive attempt which Feldt took full advantage of. That was such a bad defensive read because of all the players in the competition, Oates should know how much of a target Feldt is. They're not going to the centre, so keep an eye on the winger and jam him.

It nearly came back to bite the Broncos but fortunately Feldt and Lemuelu came up with that blunder which really changed the game. As soon as that went down I had thoughts of Lockyer-Kelly at the initial Suncorp game so I thought it was worth a look and sure enough. There's no controversy, it was a clear lost ball.

I still think the Broncos are too one minded inside the attacking red-zone and don't set up enough Plan Bs. It seemed obvious that they'd work it up the middle then try to shift right. The only Plan B was Levi going himself and invariably being dragged just short or a prop passing it to another prop on the last and killing the set.

Fortunately the Cowboys really didn't have anything and even let the Broncos off the hook. If I didn't hear the referee call Taumalolo offside three times I would have been livid with Oates but knew we were going to get the penalty.

Don't get me wrong I'm happy with the win. The thing that thrilled me the most about the performance is that the Broncos iced it and didn't just crawl to a 30-18 win. Was good to see Gamble nail that field goal and then set up that try late. That's classic Broncos and was a better representation of the game.

Round 1 against Parra, something similar to Feldt happened to Turpin at a critical point in the game and we got it disallowed. It was more of a try than Feltds and nobody in the media bats an eyelid like they are tonight.

He played out of skin tonight. I saw shades of Tallis in there.

Fatty would have everyone bouncing balls in the in goal. The more you watch the clearer it is

He also thought the Cows halves were outstanding.

Levi was solid. Other than that 5th tackle play that went to Willison, his service was an improvement on Turpin, I thought. Stats wise, not a lot between them, but Levi ran it more and looks like he has better game awareness.

I thought Levi played the ball there, but could be wrong?

In any case, he just looked crisper in almost every facet than Turps. Brought a lot more to the table. Jake probably only really gets him in defence.

i honestly dont think Payten will make it as an nrl coach.

he constantly seems to shit talk his own players. more so then most coaches. i think eventually players will just stop wanting to put in for him if they have not already

even games when they win i hear him talk and he always seems to follow a compliment up with a put down. sometimes coaches just need to be more like wayne and bellamy and say very little when it comes to there own players

I turned the game off with 20 to go to watch the 10km run
I was watching it too, but I’m right into running. Don’t know if anyone else on here is.

International distance running has been super exciting the last few years, heaps of records being broken and lots of super competitive races.

Nah, turps was great in the 1st half. Better runs too. I thought we went to shit when he went off injured.

Pretty sure you’re right. I’m also pretty certain Haas or Palasia was at dummy half and passed to Willison.

Only thing we could have done better there is have one of the halves push up and make sure that doesn’t happen, otherwise it’s just an inexperience error.
