Agree 100%. I think TMM is a natural 6, and Cobbo is a natural centre. It could all line up if Herbie delivers.

1. Herbie
2. Goates
3. Cobbo
4. Staggs
5. Peirera
6. TMM
7. Reynolds

This could be arguably the best 1-7 in the comp if Herbie handles 1 as well as I think he will.
1. Herbie- 150m+ a game
2. Goates- 150m+ a game
3. Cobbo- 150m+ a game
4. Staggs- 70m+ a game.
5. Peirera - 150m+ a game

That back 5 could regularly put out those numbers (and more), and if the panthers, roosters and sharks (2016) premierships have shown anything, having your back 5 make big metres doing the hard yards, can go a long way to a premiership.

It keeps the forwards fresh for aggressive line speed in defence.

Herbie has size, speed and a good kick return over TMM and his size and speed are positives in both attack and defence.
If we were to move TMM to 6 or even still have Gamble we still have a ball playing option there which suits Herbie at 1.
His ball playing will develop specially with help from Darius. Fullback was his position growing up so he might feel abit more natural passing from there as centre was only new to him.
Shaun Wane England coach said he had a good catch and pass coming through the ranks
Herbie would really only be a kick returner and defensive fullback. Te Maire has brought some organizational skills that Tesi sorely lacked. I feel like we have some football brains back there now.

Wow 360 didn't even mention that Herbie decided to stay loyal, they talked about Bird staying on with the Merge but nothing about us at all haha.

Great to see Herbie sticking with us as things start to turn. I agree with everything people have already said, the one year works for both parties so for me it is an astute signing.

His pass is slowly developing. He had that great scoot from dummy half under our posts after Selwyn got driven back and broke a couple tackles, made 15 metres then offered up a great short ball at speed that sent Selwyn through a gap. I don’t think a passing game is completely beyond him and I think with his work rate he would have Dylan Edward like numbers for running metres.

I agree regarding organising defence though. Unless he has shown a real ability to do so at training I would be hesitant to put him back there.
We’ve had too little on this department for a few years now and we’ve seen the results of that.

Part of me suspects that Herbie to fullback will be the next Staggs to 5/8. That is, the team pretends it’s happening to re-sign them and then it never actually eventuates.

If we keep playing well, make the finals and extend Kev another year and Farnworth is killing it at centre, much like Oates and Staggs he may accept his role and stick around.

It'd be great to watch Herbie at fullback, and same with Cobbo. But given we're conceding only 9 points a game with TMM and his attack is only gonna improve they'll be doing really well to replace him.

The one thing I will say about Herbie going to fullback is you can bet your bottom dollar the kid will do everything in his power to learn and be the best he can be there. He just seems to be one of those guys that if you tell you want something from, he will train his butt of to give you what you want. So I would have little concern with him learning to direct the defense and deliver a pass. The only areas he will be deficient in will be areas he can't improve, areas he just isn't naturally gifted in.

hmmm, like?
I don't know yet mate, haven't seen him play fullback. He is not superman so I am sure there things he doesn't have haha. I am more saying he may not have Tedescos running/tackle breaking ability or Lockies ball playing ect there are just some things you can't teach mate.

I think the areas the are harder to be taught that kinda come natural I think he's already got like work ethic etc
The skills that he lacks in are the ones that can be taught like ball playing.
Like you I believe he's one to put everything into it to get better, like he was out doing extras the day after the Bulldogs game.
Hope he kills it.

It's rumoured that Herbie re-signing has a condition that the Broncos keep improving and become the club they used to be.

Lol I'd pay money to see a lawyer define a "how they used to be" clause.

A destination club. A club that players want to play for.

Now define that in a contractual clause if you can.

I don't buy the rumour anyway, for a 1 year extension he's not going to put in a bunch of clauses. What's he going to do, sign with the dolphins in 10 weeks if we start losing a bunch of games?

It's not a contractual clause. It's more if the Broncos don't become that club, he won't re-sign beyond 2023.

Apparently Herbie was training at FB yesterday?

If we're committed to giving Herbie a shot at the 1, transitioning TMM to 6 and Cobbo to centre then I'd prefer to see it kick off sooner rather than later.

We're in finals contention with what we're currently doing.. I dont really see the point in trying to fast track it midseason.

You start doing that kind of stuff when the season is a write off.

At the moment Herbie and Cobbo are doing reps at fullback and training with Darius and Cartwright on the fullback role

We've got 1 year for the Herbie experiment... yes we're doing well now but I don't think anyone thinks we're going to seriously challenge for the premiership this year.

The sooner we finalise our spine moving forward, the better we'll be next year and the year after which is realistically when our premiership window will be at its widest. Keeping things the same now just so we can all feel better about finishing in the top 8 is nice, but realistically its sacrificing valuable time that our future spine could be playing and developing together.

I'd rather the short term pain for long term gain.
