I actually think Payne looked surprised at the backlash he got judging by his interview. Surely he must have been aware it was going to happen.
He’s had his management team and friend circle telling him he’s a victim for months. He’s had the media ripping into the broncos for underpaying him (which I suspect his management played a part in). He would’ve been advised to stay away from media to focus on the titans game and origin while his management dealt with it.

I wouldn’t be surprised if he expected everyone to be on his side.
 
Can't believe we got home. We were making some dumb decisions in the first half and after halftime the Titans said hold my beer we will show you dumb.

That short kick off by Isaako when leading by huge points is a perfect example why the Broncos let him go.

Also no coincidence that once the penalties dried up so did the Titans points.
