PLAYER Payne Haas

If it's really about topping up the contract to a million(or more) a season, could his management team bring a third party in to make up the difference? An NRL prop could probably help sell power tools or a 4x4 ute brand the same way Peter Brock used to sell V8 Holden's for example.

I think his marketability in Brisbane has taken a massive hit in the last 48 hours, and given his off-field issues it wasn't that great to begin with.

That’s the thing, all he has to do was not be a goose, make himself marketable, and he could have made a motza legitimately.

Maybe he could get on the ride on mower and cut the grass at Suncorp or empty the ash trays for a bit of an extra quid if he's doing it tough

I think the Broncos will get in his ear and just be outright smarter than any NRL manager, he will stay, and Haas will have new management once that contract is done.

He can continue to be booed until he makes his decision.

He needs to realise his new manager mates are grubs....

After seeing him last night and listening to Kevvie, it's possible Payne just had a little tantrum, threw his toys out of the cot and they're letting him cool off.

The worst thing you can do in thuglife is "disrespect" someone. If you get even a whiff of being disrespected, that's a free ticket to go to war. It's possible Payne's thuglife mates, like Mundine and SBW, have convinced him the club is disrespecting him by not paying him a million dollars.

You're right, he can be talked down from that. But would we be better off without him, and could his million dollars go to a better cause? I think yes.

I think we should make him play out the season, then allow him to enter the market for next year. We should use his million dollars to buy an elite game managing hooker, if we can buy such a thing. That's money well spent.

Nah **** that. I'd rather pay him the cash to sit in reserve grades than be weak and release a contract. I'm sick of contracts meaning nothing. He should remain here until the end of his current deal and we should fight tooth and nail to make it stick.

These players need to start being reminded, sign a contract, that's the end of it.

That's a lose lose proposition. I'd rather an arrangement were we didn't piss all that money down the toilet. If we let him go we actually win because we can put his money to a better cause.

The worst thing about management like Smith, is that they always somehow get blind loyalty, and that's what Haas has for him. No matter what, Haas will stay loyal to his bullshit dealings, and probably won't realise the **** up until after he retires.

Taking a huge pay cut to dedicate himself to the teachings of Islam, which can only be done at a Sydney mosque close to Bondi ofc.

The damage is done as far as im concerned.

I 100% support trading him for a spine player as soon as possible.
The fact he did this shit right as we start turning the club around and rebuild a winning culture is fucking despicable and i hate the merkin for it.

As far as im concerned he is no longer a Bronco and just an imposter from the Roosters wearing our Jersey and the sooner he ***** off the better.

Rothfield:

"The Broncos have finally re-emerged from years in the doldrums under Kevvy Walters. And then Payne Haas threatens to ruin it. He’s not happy being on $750,000 a year. What a disrespectful human being to have around a football club. There is probably only one NRL club that can afford him if he leaves the Brisbane Broncos this year — the Wests Tigers. They have the space in the salary cap but don’t think he’s worth anything more than what the Broncos are paying him - $750,000 this year and $800,000 in 2023. Haas would actually lose out on the deal because of cost of living and house prices in Sydney are far greater than in Brisbane."

Rarely I agree with Buzz.

But on the cost of living and house prices, they are insane in Syd. In Jan, they hit 1.6mil for a median house in Sydney - literally double Bris. A good house in Syd, is even worse.

Add that to the extra tax, agent fees, et al. He's FAR worse off in Sydney on a $1mil / year than in Bris on $800k next year.
