He was wanted by Penrith but there’s an easier pathway for him to play NRL here and eventually take over from Reynolds rather than sit behind Cleary and Luai.

I'm actually surprised he agreed to come to us ... since the reason he's leaving the Tigpies is that he's stuck behind Brooks. now he'll be stuck behind Reynolds and Mam
not the worst depth signing we could have made,
he's been highly rated down there, so a couple of season's learning of ARey would be good for him and us; plus he's only 22

But if a lot of Sydney clubs wanted him how come you said he is a player who couldn't make the grade in Sydney. Considering the player he is replacing (gamble) didn't play the same amount of games as him as this 22 year old until he was 27(?) he's hardly a shocking replacement....
I'm meh about it, but ikin does seem to have an eye for squad/depth players so given he did a decent job in a failing team filling in, I'm sure he will for us.

Obviously just signed as cover for Reyno when he goes down injured.
Decent depth signing. He's got some good things in his game and could form a decent partnership with Mam if it comes to it.

although the Panthers wanted him to replace their depth halves.
I think i'd trust the Panthers talent scout over the Tigers, if i'm being truly honest

What tigers fans are you talking too? I don't know a Tigers fan who wants brooks in 1st grade. It went hastings>madden>>>>>>>benji comeback>>>>>>>>>>>>>>> brooks....
And that's not saying madden is any good, he isn't, he's pure depth, it's saying they had enough of brooks. Borderline despised him

He just doesnt seem like much of an Ikin moneyball style recruit.
There was competition for his signature... so are we planning to play him in the 17 each week... ie the Billy Walters role.... OR have we overpaid for a depth player?
Gamble was a base contract that earned himself a 2yr deal through performances.. Madden wouldnt be coming on a base contract.
We could be paying more for Madden than we were for Gamble, who we just let go and was proven to be able to cover for Reynolds in the halfback role.... Madden has been playing 6 or off the bench in NRL this year

Take a look at the wests tigers forum. He's not a gun but they are all saying he has potential to kick on and should have got picked ahead of brooks. He's depth, and probably has a good attitude considering he's been willing to wait a few years behind brooks and was schoolboys captain.
I don't get how people get annoyed at signings like this. Him or asi won't break the bank so who cares. No one really knows how they'll go or be used so people need to stop acting like they have come up for a guaranteed starting spot and twice the price of who they're replacing. THEY ARENT. They'll be near base rates...

At the right price it’s a fine signing if we hadn’t already signed Asi and Walters. We just signed 2 low ceiling inexperienced young halves in the span of a week.

What's a good price for a depth half though?
$250k, $300k, $350k??
For us the back up half will be required because Reynolds wont play 24 games a year... and for us the quality of our depth half could be whether we're in or out of the finals... because we are an 8th/9th placed team.
Gamble was probably on $250k or so and we knew he could come in and do a job to cover for Reynolds... I dont know if Madden can come in and play 7.
I'm hoping those in charge have seen that he can do it in NSW cup and if he can, and if he's come on a good deal... then all good by me.
But given there was competition for his signature and all I can really recall of him is a bit of a running game at 6... then I'm hoping we havent wasted a top 30 spot after getting rid of Gamble.
I just think there's risks to the signing
