RLWC 2021 Final Discussion

That looked like a vintage Maroons play for Tedesco there.

Shades of Lockyer to Slater.

We’ve seen that a few times before. Well done Crichton. That said, he was there mighty quick, I wonder if he was back 10.

Nice try to finish the game.

Samoa never really troubled Australia. Apart from that little period where Australia kept making errors, they were pretty much always in control of the game.

Well you’ve still got to perform on the day and while the heaviest of heavy favourites, they didn’t seem overawed at all. An Australia g England GF would have likely been a closer match but credit to Samoa, these opportunities clearly don’t come around every day and good on them for being the team that was always going to get smashed by Australia no matter who it was once NZ was on the same side of the draw.

Yeah I think NZ was the only team that could of beat Australia in the world cup, don't feel like Australia was well coached at all during it despite the win, soo clunky when playing anyone decent but the Player quality is soo much higher that they can win on individual talents.

I actually thought Samoa started the better of the two teams. Their second phase was causing Australia all sorts of headaches and they were making strong in-roads around the middle. They were unlucky not to have a set on Australia's line with Tedesco's bat-back. However, Luai's kick just went dead and once Australia got on the board the tone of the game changed.

There were a few moments where Samoa looked likely but mistakes cruelled them. Milford dropping it when he had numbers. The kick back on the inside when Angus was off the field and nobody from Samoa chased.

I don't think they were too far off from the Aussies. I think defensively Australia just withstood and frustrated Samoa out of the game.

Cleary is a magician by the way. His ability to sum up and execute, dare I say it, shows signs of being Lockyer-like, not saying they are in the same class…yet but he’s a freak.

Really.....?

If he even played half as well as you're suggesting, with the calibre of players around him.....we should have won by 60.

He's got a long way to go before anyone starts calling him a freak IMO.

Yep. I’m happy to disagree because I loved what I saw. If this kid was a Bronco / Qlder, we’d all be in raptures.

Watch his game, he had the hall on a string and he’s a good defender, he’s going to be an all time great.

Let’s not forget by the way that a on Australian team with Slater, Smith, Lockyer and JT lost a World Cup final to NZ. Your argument doesn’t wash.

Lets also not forget
that NZ team that beat us........was much different to being "Samoa".

You're comparing apples and oranges.

I am not. This 'Samoa' is different to other 'Samoas'. Plus you had basically FOUR immortals at the top of their game in a well-settled Australian team and they simply couldn't get it done.

This Australian team was full of debutants in took quite a while to get going. Cleary was brilliant yesterday and directed his team around the park brilliantly and he did that with an underperforming Munster, a really good fullback who simply isn't in the same league as Slater and two really good hookers but neither of whom at present are a patch on Smith.

Plus this Australian side also beat NZ as well, arguably a better side than the one Australia lost to with said immortals. So how exactly can we compare apples with applies in this case?

Cleary has excellent vision, a fantastic boot on him, wonderful short and long passes and has already won back-to-back premierships as halfback and now a world cup. Also lead NSW to the most dominant (statistically speaking) origin series win of all time in 2021. Not really sure what more he could be doing here.

I need to stop you there @Sproj when you start saying the most dominant win of all time. To start with it was a patch on the third game in Queensland after the media had slagged off CS9. Not sure what year it was but we absolutely decimated them. Then you need to look at this ear with the x factor of the 6 again anomaly and players being sin-binned and sent off at the drop of a hat. I don't think any of teh games played after the introduction of V'landy ball should ever be compared and contrasted with the games prior to that game-swinging six again rule.

Hehe yeah I know, I was sort of doing a subtle dig at six agains because I HATE that rule, it is the worst thing to happen to league since the NRL took over the Super League.
