THE COACH Kevin Walters

I was really impressed in the presser, Kevvie clearly articulated areas that need to be addressed and how they are addressing them with some comments on individual players.
Also liked how they played down the win... the press were talking about the confidence of getting a win like that and how it will carry through for the rest of the year, and being the underdog, etc.

But Kevvie and Reyno both played down the win... it's a good mentality to have... treating it as just another game, but coming in with confidence that we can get the win... that we can compete with the big guns of the competition.

I'm very impressed with the performance lastnight, and the coaching staff need to take a bow. Our scrambling was brilliant, we actually had structure in defence. That first try was all on Herbie not trusting Mam inside him - Herbie went in to tackle Mam's player, so Oates then had to come in, leaving the overlap and Cobbo was flat-footed and not ready for Crighton's speed.

Also very impressed that we went with them in that second half when they turned up the heat. The past few years we wilt under that pressure, but lastnight we went with them. It wasn't pretty, but it was enough.

We got in their faces, really unsettled them and it showed. Our line speed was much improved, and we were trying to find our front faster in tackles. Both of those things were noticeable improvements on last year and credit has to go to the coaching staff as well as the players. We look a modern footy team.

Kevvie seems to have developed a harder edge this year.. wouldn’t surprise if he grew a goatee soon, like evil Cartman

It’s early days but to Kev and the coaching staff’s credit the early signs are good. Handling his interchanges, team lists, and media better. Defence and resilience has seemingly improved. Still relying too much on individual brilliance but things are looking good.

yeah I mean Penrith and cowboys for the first 2 rounds is a brutal draw and we beat penrith with cobbo who isn't a fullback at all, it feels like had titans didn't do a dog shot on walshy in the trials we would do put a cricket score on the Penrith dog *****.

Once we get Reynolds to work with Walsh properly I think we will have some scary attack.

The defense is there and so are the smarts now in terms of playing to the current rules, these are two massive things to build on.

May 11 - we play the Storm in Melbourne and I plan to go for the first time in years, this is out litmus test - if we compete for the full 80, maybe even jag the win, we will be announced as contenders.

Currently, we haven’t played all that well yet and have still beaten the two premiership favourites but pretty much shutting them both down for large periods and frustrating them into error. Good signs but again, early days.

Can't wait to send the ***** back to their Melbourne irrelevancy.

Walsh > Paps even if he does play(unlikely)

I know this has been said before ad nauseum (but not be me) however I really feel that Melbourne are going to slip down the ladder this year. Probably still make the 8 but can't see top 4.
I think we are a definite chance on May 11 and also when they come up here in Rd 27.

I'll be very surprised if Paps comes back even close to the same player after shattering his knee, Meaney isn't that good and is more of a winger.

Even with Munster they are a level below ATM, when C Smith left they still had Hynes to plug in gaps, since he went that team just hasn't looked the same level since.

Yeah Paps is a massive concern, have real JYY vibes from him sadly. As much as I hate the Storm, Paps was great to watch but if he gets back, you just can't see him being anything close to the same player as before.

And if this year is finally the year Melbourne slide, couple that with Bellamy leaving, the era of the Storm and their cheating ways could finally be out the door. However, we need to see if other teams can get over the top of them like the Dogs did. The Dogs aren't even a good team yet, will be interesting to see how this Storm side goes again a top team.

They've also just lost NAS for about 2 months but scheduled return date? You guessed it - May 11.
