POST GAME 2023 NRL Grand Final - Penrith vs Brisbane

Don't really get all the hate coming Reyno's way. Frankly we're lucky he stayed on at all after that groin incident. I thought it was over then and there. He clearly wasn't at his best from that point on, but the alternative would have led to a bigger loss (I'll leave that up to you whether that was preferable to what we got or not).

I understand this sucks a mighty dick at the moment but comeon, lets not go looking for heads to chop right now. It has been a bloody good season, far better than ANY of us thought it would be. We went from a predicted fringe top 8 finish to 3 minutes from winning the whole thing.

I know it's not his game but Reece Walsh needs to get involved more when his team is on the back foot. Compared to Edwards it was a different level tonight. He isnt much smaller than edwards. He can provide a bit more in the little areas.
Apart from his break & try assist just plain poor. Hopefully the broncos can keep him grounded and he doesn't pull a fucking milford.

My original point though is we need a back rower capable of being a threat on a regular basis. I think we lack a bit in that department, ours are all just steady, solid players. Peeks is a couple of years of footy away from really hitting his straps big time imo.
Fair. That riki and reynolds combination should be better. Not sure who that is on.

I'm less distraught than i thought i would be tbh. Kevvie needs to get to work for next year in eliminating the errors. Our last 2 games have seen us put under pressure because of our lack of discipline with the ball.

We’ve lacked in this area for years. Our backrowers have been defensive players since maybe Tallis? Not sure but it’s been a long time.

I actually can’t believe the hatred, for Reynolds…
Yeah, he was below par tonight. All the dropouts were fucked. Decisions on the last?! Questionable.
Gentle reminder though…
We’re not here without him!!! Not in the GF, but in the finals! The impact he has had on this young team is remarkable. So please…
Show some love and fire up for next year!

@JayPee Not that it matters but my thoughts around Luai's shoulder were vindicated tonight.
He toughed it out as long as he could. Dont think they really he had another option. He showed enough in the Storm game. The pain must have gor him. I didn't really notice an incident that he came reeling out of.

Fifita wasnt, and Sua when he first broke through was good. I also think people forget how good Glenn and Sammy were at times. Its been a long while though since them.

If you told me we would be up by 16 points with 20 to go, I would just have told you we will win the game as Reynolds will kick the other team out of the contest.

The exact opposite happened. We just needed any sort of period at their line through repeats and such, it probably would have won us the game.

That's the unfortunate part of sport really, you can play well all season but if you don't get the result by the full-time siren it just leaves you feeling empty.

I thought it was a really brave performance from the Broncos. They were as nervous as anything, the Panthers were all over them and the game looked all but over when Reynolds injured his groin. I think Reynolds was really brave to play on and had that been a regular game he would have come off for sure.

I'd say Penrith were the better team for 40 odd minutes and Brisbane only had that run for 20 minutes. It was enough to pile on 24 points but they were a buffer so when that run eventually ran out, it was advantage Penrith.

Suddenly that 40 minute onslaught caught up to them and with nothing to lose they took their advantage. It's a shame but that's the price you pay when you play the Broncos style of football.

It's been a pleasure to watch this season this year, they gave one of the greatest teams of all-time an almighty scare and played some breath-taking Rugby League.
This.

I think we were gassed at the end. The first half caught up with us.

We’re all so disappointed but let’s also be thankful to a team that proved all the doubters wrong throughout the season. We had the Panthers on the ropes and almost knocked them out.

Heads high Broncs fans. We have a lot of good young kids coming through and we keep going.

Horrible way to lose but we have to think about where we’ve come from in the last few years.

Proud of them despite some obvious errors and flaws that self inflicted the result on us tonight.

No one really gave us a chance but we almost did it.

I thought if anything we lost the field position most of the game outside the run we scored tries.

Penrith were making a good 10-20m more most sets than us which made it harder for the likes of Walsh to do something when all his options for passing are being covered.

I think the line drop off that reyno did that penrith just managed to make it out was biggest swing of our game.

Had he got it I doubt we would of lost, not much in it.

There's no pain, unless it comes out.

**** Reynolds was bad man.

Like I hate to pile on someone, he was the guy, to get us there and everyone of his kicks basically turned into points.
The leota try shouldn’t have happened. That started the momentum and that was all on capewell. Reynolds biggest blunder was not kicking on the last at the end and passed it to piakura instead for a nothing play. He was all set for a grubber or short chip like he’s done all year but he hesitated.

Far out, it sucks, but how good are the Broncos?

We lost by two points to the team that was in the last 3 grand finals (winning the last 2), with them having 4 free interchanges through HIA, and only making one error the entire game. We shouldn't have been within 30 points of them, all things being equal. Biggest comeback in GF history or whatever, glosses over the fact that they were 1 error and 3 penalties away from being absolutely perfect, and we still took them for 78 minutes. Cleary might have put the pedal down in that last 20, but he was only able to do it because, like normal, the defensive line against him was shot to pieces and under immense fatigue.

Very, very proud of this team.
