It will be interesting to see how many reserves Kevvie takes to LA, and whether he calls for another batch after the second preseason trial. The way I see it, the trials are switched around this season.

Normally the Manly trial is a ragtag bunch of Train & Trial and fringe players, plus a few first graders who need a run for whatever reason. The first Preseason trial is a smattering of established first graders, plus the "possibles" who are likely to get called upon later in the season. And the second is close to a full strength team.

But this year all the established first graders will be over in Los Angeles, so won't be available for the NRL trial against Manly. And maybe a few reserves, just in case. The other alternative is to take ONLY the starting team to LA, and call for the reserves after they've played against Manly. That won't give them much time to adjust to the time zone and recover, but they're unlikely to get a game anyway.

It will be disappointing if Kevvie goes with the former, as he will deprive us from seeing the next cabs off the rank. This particularly applies to Mozer, Mariner, Te Kura, Willison and Sailor. I would like to see these blokes get a game against Manly and then fly over for cover (unless they're in the starting side).
Top 25 I think for certain will go, the Manly game I think will be a maybe 1 or 2 top 30 guys like Hoeter, Pierria if we have enough train and trials/guys from feeder clubs to fill spots.
We will be playing our best possible side in the US and Kev will want the best of the broncos brand to be on show.

The top 17 plus 4 reserves should be plenty. The question is whether a couple of the reserves could fly to LA after the Manly match. They have time.

No way would that be feasible especially with player welfare being at the forefront for recovery.

Are they heading over 10-days or so early??

If they go with too few who are the players meant to train against whilst they're over there??

I'd agree that they send more of the squad over than less

I did up a little sheet on how to get a heap of Broncos matches not being shown on Nine for as little as possible. Just have to remember to cancel before any recurring payments are charged with both the Foxtel trial and Kayo. Rounds 12 & 14 I'll either head to pub or listen on radio.

$50 for 9 Broncos' matches isn't too bad plus all the other matches and sports that I'll be able to watch.

Yep, unless there are visa refusals for bumping heads with Johnny Law. Reece got off with a good behaviour bond for cocaine possession, but he'll still have to declare it. Payne also got a good behaviour bond for suggesting that lady lawman suck his dick.

They might have to hire a coyote to smuggle them in across the Mexican border. Once they're in, they're fine.
Yep, here we go. Visa issues. Could be problems for Walsh and Haas.

ScreenScreenshot 2024 01 22 at 13 47 42 NRL clubs call urgent meeting with Vlandys over Las V

Blake Solly (Souths):

“The four clubs are completely supportive of the NRL’s vision for the USA and the match in Las Vegas, An ambitious project of this nature is always going to have its logistical challenges, like the visa issue. Ideally, these logistical issues are solved ASAP, so we can focus solely on promoting the game and working with the NRL to ensure this event is the success it deserves to be. As we get closer to the match, we felt the preparation needed Peter’s energy and unique ability to ‘get things done’.”

Abdo:

“Anything new like this is going to have its challenges. We’re working really hard to resolve some of the issues we’re facing given the scale and magnitude of this. I’m confident the appropriate solutions will be in place as a matter of priority in coming days and weeks. I understand their frustrations. However, I’m a 100 per cent confident all the matters will be resolved very quickly. I appreciate their strong support for the concept. We’re all on the same team promoting this. If it succeeds, it could be one of the greatest things to happen to the game.”

lol fucking typical. A club like this one - with proper management - has been asking for the past three fucking months about visa's and the NRL sits on its hands and does nothing until 6 weeks or so out.

At - every - single - turn - they continue to show how fucking inept of an administration they are. Useless *****.

I honestly didn't expect anything less from the NRL. I can't help but think maybe they did it on purpose, if Broncos knew 2 of they're best players wouldn't be able to go, do you think the NRL would have got the cash cow that the Broncos are onboard the Vegas train 🤔 (tin foil hat)

Mozer and Paix aren't going to Vegas. Mozer will definitely be playing against Wynnum, and Paix against Manly (according to Billy). Expect a near full strength side against the Cowboys. Reynolds and Riki are likely to be rested until Round one. Fletcher Baker and Jesse Arthars yet to be confirmed in the trials.

Kevin Walters: Reece Walsh, who is eligible for both Indigenous and Maori teams, will not be playing in the All Stars match.
With riki put till round 1, is cobbo our only possible player then? Wouldn't mind him sitting it out either, although wouldn't mind if they pick him at centre either. More time there the better befor round 1...

Mam, Staggs and Cobbo are all eligible on the Indigenous side. Riki and Arthars won't be available due to recovery, and Walsh isn't available for some other reason.

Wouldn't surprise me if Mam, Staggs and Cobbo are pulled as well, given the Cowboys trial will be the only game the senior squad will get to play before Round 1. From what's been said, Reynolds, Arthars, Riki, Paix and Baker won't be playing that trial. Jayden Hunt also has a remaining question-mark over his ankle.

Riki and Arthurs are racing the clock for round 1 so won't play.

Staggs sounded like his eyes were strongly on last Vegas with the 1st game ever his dad will see live. Think he will have a blinder bcos of this btw.

Mam played a lot of footy last year so will be upto the team. Cobbo needs to get used to the centres. Think they'd both benefit more playing with us then the all stars. Great experience but unless there's a guarantee of limited minutes and how they are used I think the cons outweigh the pros in letting them play this one...

Would be fine Cobbo playing if he gets left centre, same with Mam at 6.

Rather not Staggs play because he is injury prone.

Injury prone ?
He has busted his shoulder and his knee once each within 3-4 seasons ?
Not as if he is in doubt for selection every week ...
