PLAYER Payne Haas

Now then, gotta bring this thread back from the dead for the question: If Payne takes home a ring next weekend, what if anything does that do to his contract question?

On 360 last night the wankers were saying he would be worth 1.5mill to some clubs.
If he played 80 mins most weeks it's probably not far off but you cut your own throat salary cap wise.
They're just throwing numbers around so they can chuck in their articles.

In the next CBA he could be that high, but $1.5m might be the old $1m.

I think his manager will look for a short extension to get him to the new CBA and then that leaves him with room to get an upgrade.

It is interesting though, last game proved he is worth whatever we’re paying him. He literally won us the game with some of his runs but especially his last ditch efforts to dive on balls, tackle on the goal line and stop Cleary’s FG attempt.

Agree with that totally. He earned his corn on Sunday and then some.

Ultimately the guy has now seemingly committed to seeing out his contract. That’s all you can realistically ask or expect.

He is saying all the right things.

All that aside, his salary and what club he’s at has become a fairly trivial conversation in the grand scheme of things. He is probably the single most impressive player any of us will ever see. If he was a spine player of equal competency, he would make Nathan Cleary (who many are suggesting may be the GOAT) look like Jock Madden.

Sit back and enjoy/appreciate this man’s career. He’s not even 26 yet.

Not many deserve a premiership as much as Payne.

I personally think it will make him happier to see out his career here if he was to win a premiership this year...it's always seemed to me that when the rumours are strongest he was leaving was when we were struggling on the field. Winning a premiership takes away a reason to leave.

Absolute privilege to watch this guy play for the team i support.

Did everyone hear on NRL 360 last night (embarrassed that I caved and watched it)..

According to the lads who love the broncos, Haas worth 1.5mil minimum.

I mean, I don’t want us to pay that much but it isn’t entirely outlandish. It’s definitely on the upper end but I wouldn’t be shocked if a club offered him that.

Let’s say he’s on 1.1 per year now, that would mean give him an extra 400k. Would you rather:

1. Lose Haas and keep every other player in our team
2. Replace Piakura with Gosievski, or Hetherington with a guy like Taltly and give Haas another 400k?

I wouldn’t want to pay him that much, but if you look at it like the above options, it’s not a straight forward decision

*shrugs*

I hope he just signs for less than that and we keep everyone...

On one hand you could say "he's worth it pay him" and on the other you could say that its a lot of money to have tied up in one forward, particularly if he gets injured.

Glad it ain't my call.

We'll probably give him 1.2. Does he want to leave for an extra 300k elsewhere? He has a lot going on outside football obviously that probably makes it not just about money.

That said, he'll get plenty in 3rd party deals being at the biggest club in Australia and then there is the post-career stuff that being an ex-Bronco opens up as well. I suspect it would take 2 million to get him consider leaving but then if he is on that much, he isn't going to have anything decent around him.
