2025 NRL General Discussion Thread

You know if I was into conspiracies, this would be such an easy way to get around the salary cap. E.g. sign Cleary for unders, pay extra to his dad (a selerate cap I believe), dad signs over family property to Cleary as extra payment.

"He called that home until two years ago, when there was an internal transfer of the family home into his name, at a value of $1.7m. The four-bedroom home on the Nepean River was bought by dad, and coach, Ivan Cleary, for $1.175m in 2013 during his first stint as Penrith coach."

Ivan isn't exactly at arm's length when it comes to third parties...

The NRL has AXED Graham Annesley's weekly briefing for the 2025 season.

Andrew Abdo said:

“As part of the post season review in 2024, we decided that we do not require the regular Monday football briefings,” Abdo said in a statement seen by the NewsWire.

“We will continue to update media, fans and clubs on significant football matters as required in the season.”

"We do what we want and answer to nobody".

Weak... they can't claim that no one was interested because all the outlets would use it to fill columns the next day... he's just too weak to do it every week and keep justifying the refs constantly fucking things up.

Now it will be media driving narrative on decisions

Wrong their, should be they're.

But on the Annersley thing, so clearly not only did Dominic Young's butt cost us first place on the ladder, it made him pull the plug on trying to justify the unjustifiable.

NRL's response will be:
Nothing To See Here GIF by Giphy QA

Bwaif and co were all on the front foot about it last night. What they said basically amounted to "It's just not their go" What? A couple of Billionaires acting like entitled wankers? Yeah, you're probably right...

I just saw it, that's disgraceful.
1. Just brush it off in a throw away 30 second segment or less
2. Blame the victim for 'grandstanding'

Completely 'objective' as always on 360.

'And rugby league is going to stop crime and poverty in Papua New Guinea because it gives kids something to aspire too and that's why Latrell Mitchell is a god over there.' Peter Vlandys

Yep, let's talk about how its going to help end crime by holding up Mitchell as the poster boy. Irony anyone?

It's the same as Hunt buying a house off Norm Black the owner of Trip a deal. It was for 2.7 million!- he hardly got a cheap deal.

As long as it's market value they can purchase a house. If they were buying a house for 1980's prices than I think they would have a closer look.

First the NRL got rid of the NRL weekly spin doctor sessions.

now Abdo has written to clubs warning them not to speak about the refs anywhere. he wrote:

“You may recall the club CEOs meeting during Magic Round last year where we discussed the public focus on officiating and comments by coaches that at times only serve amplify fan and media attention on what in many cases are simply differences of opinion,” Abdo wrote.

“The consensus at the meeting was the NRL should more strictly enforce the public comment rules in relation to match officials.

“Please can I ask you to advise your head coaches and all club officials, that the existing public comment provisions of the NRL rules will be more strictly enforced in 2025.

“This includes, but is not limited to, post-match media conferences, radio and television interviews, and club or personal social media posts.”

So more warnings to come from Robinson then. Which last warning is he on again?
