Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

Don't know how anyone who's watched Jesse since he came back from the Warriors wouldn't want him in the team.

Perenially underrated
Yeah, he’s solid.

I think he lacks speed and power that could snag us a few more tries though.

If you want Skelton, you are in luck, we already have almost a carbon copy in Leota. But you'd have to be a bit crazy to want Skelton over Arthars based on the preseason and round 1.

I was going to mention Leota.. In previous years when I have watched him I have not been that impressed. He looked a lot better in the recent trial, but I don’t think he’s ever going close to being near the player Skelton is. He definitely has potential, but I’m not betting on him being that great. He’s obviously not ready to play NRL in 2025 like Skelton is.

This. You simply don't win Premierships without a few guys who are critically undervalued and underpaid, to balance out your Cap.

That is unless you're Penrith or the Roosters and the NRL is happy for you to just buy up the off-contract stars from any side missing the Top 8 to use in your finals campaign for a laughably nominal fee.
Just to clarify one of my favourite Broncos backs of all time is Jack Reed

Skelton still drops the ball a lot, we don't need more of that in our team.

Speaking of dropping the ball how bad did Junior Tupou look for thr phins.

He was looking very promising at the tigers (still had issues with errors back then I think), but he looked way underdone in that game.

Guessing tigers kicked him to the kerb after he signed elsewhere last year (cant recall if he got injured) so he's probably missed a year of development

He looked a lot bigger, stronger and motivated than he did at Tigers. He’s not on the same level as Skelton though. Has always looked a bit off.. I thought it was an average signing by phins.

Warbrick was a great buy by Storm.

Philitoga impressed me in the trials..

I’d still keep an eye out for more Skelton/Warbrick type wingers we could develop.

Wouldn’t mind signing the next Semi Radradra or something.

Forgot to mention that Israel Leota looks like an edge backrower to me whenever I’ve seen him run. Can imagine that being his best position long term. His size and speed would probably be used best there. Piakura hasn’t set the bar high for defence so Leota could probably do alright.

Of course we could probably jag someone better for that role, but you're going to have to pay for that luxury. We already outlay a considerable chunk of cap on our backline in Staggs and likely Cobbo now too, and to balance that you simply have to have one or two guys who are on decent unders to offset it, and Wing is almost certainly the best place to achieve this.

Arthars isn't a world beater, but pound for pound he's arguably amongst the best value players for what he produces vs what we pay him currently on our roster.

To be honest, I’m assuming we will lose Cobbo. I don’t see how we will be able to retain him.

Skelton and Warbrick were both bottom dollar contracts when they came to NRL and are now stars.

Storm wouldn’t be paying Warbrick as much as he could get on the open market today, and yet there he is lining up for them on the wing in grand finals.

Why are you assuming we will lose Cobbo? Because the media are saying it? Don't believe those idiots.

Can easily see him playing for the Roosters two years from now, for what the Daily Telegraph will call '$200k a season' because he's so keen to be part of that incredible Roosters culture the Sydney media simp for, and in no way will it be because he likes winning games of golf for ridiculous amounts of cash.

I am a massive fan.

Too many people think because their isn't this cult following and fanfare a player is shit.

Arthur's will be a 7/8 out of 10 every week. Every team needs toilers who just do their job.

Exactly, and most importantly of all, he's doing it while being paid less than he could command elsewhere. No side wins Premierships without a few of those kind of guys on their roster.

Has Staggs actually signed yet? If not he might want to soon. I am joking to a degree as I love Staggs but hey if Cobbo is going to light it up consistently the Broncos have to find a way.

It's like dejavu when we had him and Coates up for renewal. Really hard to see how we're going to retain both given our cap and how in demand they likely are.

Does Cobbo strike you as the sort of person willing to uproot and move to Sydney? He doesn't to me, at least. Maybe an obscene amount of money changes that, but I still just can't see him wanting to venture away from Brisbane, not anytime soon at least.

I think that well and truly has us in box seat 'IF' he performs this year, and is worthy of the new contract. Just thinking of his visits to Cherbourg and being close to family, I think if we want him to stay, and the offer isn't way way under, he'll stay.

I doubt Madge takes the road trip to Cherbourg if Selwyn isn`t in his long term plans .
