NRL Round 4 Discussion

I know its only round 4, but with Penrith looking like they have finally fallen, I'm feeling like...

Penrith have been the benchmark defensively the last few years. Even when losing, they weren't getting flogged. I know they have a few injuries but their defense is shocking, compounded by a stuttering attack. The kids they've nurtured to fill the holes of the stars that have left are all being found out. McLean and Cole are awful.

I know he was out with a HIA this game, but no more mid-season rests for Cleary this year if riff want to make the top 8 let alone the top 4; their backup spine options look terrible. Smith and Henry are also being exposed as extremely overrated in JFH's absence.

Thank god for the state of the comp that Ipap looks lazy, uninterested, and unfit. A side that has won 4 straight prems shouldn't be able to sign a player of his quality.

Cleary is an obvious loss, but i think penrith's recent performances Show how vital edwards is to that team in both attack and defence.

Yep absolutely. Missing Edwards and Cleary for them are huge. Edwards is a fantastic fullback who is almost never caught out of position unlike Laurie. Penrith are really banged up and they don’t have the depth anymore, at least not the NRL ready depth they have had for the last four years. McLean also is no Crichton or Turuva, they are really missing those metres from that wing.

Stating the obvious but it looks like Penrith are back with the pack now once you remove one or two of their key players.

It used to be if they are missing someone then they would unearth some new future gun, doesn't appear to be the case that way anymore. They will still feature prominently in the Finals if they're able to have Cleary, Edwards and Yeo fit for most of the season but they'll need to string a few together between now and Origin. They suddenly look like a very beatable team during Origin.

I think penrith look beatable, because they had no Cleary or Edwards... their spine looked horrendous on paper and I think that's going to be the biggest change this year compared to previous.

Cleary used to be able to have a mid season break and they'd still walk in a top 2 finish, but he can't this year because panthers will need to work their asses off to get top 4.

They've still got origin to come and I think they'll still be missing Yeo, Cleary, Martin, To'o and most likely Edwards.

Crazy thing is that it's only Edwards and Cleary missing according to the injuries list... To'o picked up a hammy injury last night, so that's potentially 4 weeks on the sideline... their depth is being seriously tested this year.

I wanted to just say that I finally watched the Broncos v Canberra game, and it wasn't as bad as I thought. What struck me most was how Canberra took advantage of a new ref who was clearly out of his depth. They were offside all the time, diving, flipping themselves into headslams, and I even think the touchies saw it and were helping him out a lot with calling fwd passes more.

I think this really stunned us early, so we dropped a lot of confidence and pushed plays, and with a few new combos chasing points, it was just too much. I hope we get our mojo back against The at OUR F-ING HOUSE!

It'll be interesting if the Panthers limp into the finals outside the top 4 but then have a fully fit 17. It's not like they have a home ground anyway, I wouldn't put it past them.

The penalising of their weekly bullshit is what shocked me…why now?

... if we want to go deep conspiracy ... really get our money's worth for that tin foil hat ...

These somewhat unfathomable against-the-odds results are great to tempt people in to betting.
