Hard to take too much away from a game against really awful opponents in terrible conditions, but a good win nonetheless.

On the positive side, we were prepared and didn’t get ambushed and Shibasaki looked really slick and justified Madge’s decision. More importantly, Walsh improved massively… he showed calmness, composure and willingness to die with the ball instead of force a play which he hasn’t shown in the past few weeks. It led to no stupid errors and then when he finally got some space he had a beautiful tap on for a try.

We still have some very obvious weaknesses which were on show tonight, including Arthars refusing to contest the high ball, a continued total inability to recover short dropouts and a complete lack of support play on line breaks (I think this is the biggest reason to bring Mam back into the fold). That late Avarillo try was frustrating too.

Plenty to like, but still some things to work on.

Side note: Jordan Riki looks like a Greek god and yet runs with all the ferocity and power of an 8 year old girl. He must be very close to being dropped.
Agree with your assessment of Arthurs, I noticed this, and he was somewhat the same last week as well. Mariner on the wing and I think we are a better team, and yet to see Riki even look to offload, he's tall and rangy and yet always seems to be easily bound up in tackles. I have not been really impressed with him for some time, although a toiler in defence, I'm not sure there's a lot more improvement in him, hope he proves me wrong, whereas Jet Ski has markedly improved his game. Madge has plenty to work on alright, that's his job ,and he's got the roster to do it. The effort was great tonight in shit conditions ,and I especially like when we get aggressive in defence. Let's Go Broncos.

CALLING JORDAN RIKI!!!
Step right up, step right up!
Prepare to join Mr Baker on the ☀️

Wolff: We played a team tonight most would consider to be the best in the comp.
I didn't think Redcliffe did a lot wrong tonight. They were running down hill most of the night.; Ref assisted. Had us pinned in our 20 a good portion of the night. I thought they applied more sustained pressure, but our scrambling defence, and low errors, frustrated them.

Redcliffe is going to turn this around.

It was a mature win by us in atrocities conditions. The bench was awesome. Walters running game, compliments Paix. Not sure when Carrigan moves back to lock, but I can see it happening. Why doesn't Reece do the drop outs, as his boot is far bigger? Short drop outs are a hard no for the Broncos. Missing Ezra around the ruck.

I think the problem for Redcliffe is they can't get up for any old game like they can that one.

Their attack is still pretty shit, but their efforts in some areas tonight were better and kept the score from blowing out. They kept us pinned on our own line a few times, and started pretty well.

They haven't been doing that against anyone else. Which is why they'll keep struggling.

Great game from the boys. Near 90% completion rate in the wet. Great defence mostly yet again. Reynolds kicking and game management clinic.

Don't get the Ricki hate tonight as this was his best game in a long time. Yes he has got more to give in attack but this was a good effort.

Our forward pack is looking very good. Love the Carrigan shot on Sloth.

And the shot from Piakura on Herbie. Great to see.

Adam is looking primed to stear these boys deep this season. Hope he stays fit because he looks hungry.

Madge has these boys fit to overcome the obvious ref bias. It so blatantly obvious but it's nothing new.

Shiba is looking fantastic and what a testament to the work he has done. Definitely helping us out of our red zone.

Up the mighty Broncos, can't wait for Roosters home game to be there cheering you on.

Yeah I think they're in trouble after their performance for this game.

This was basically their GF and they had so much ball inside our 20m to only come up with 1 try.. the other was opportunistic when broncos thought they had it sewn up.

That's a little bit concerning, because their attack and effort areas in defence were great under old Wayne.

They've had energy the last two weeks in Qld, but they were fucking woeful and so lethargic the first two weeks when they had to travel.

Their attack has been plain woeful for all 4 games so far... it's one thing to turn up defensively and with energy, but if you can't score then at some point it will start to weigh on the rest of the team.

Broncos had that issue a few years ago... Payne would work his ass off to get us into good field position only for the attack and kicking game to be completely toothless... if that continues they will quickly lose their steam.

He was too busy making 150m and 32 tackles on ☀️corp
Wow! Didn’t know that. I guess stats are what make the actual difference, so yeah, you’re right, he should’ve been motm. In fact, call it early, Dally M by a mile?!
Unless, you’ve been actually watching Broncos games, then you’d know Riki has been absolute dog shit since 2024. Awesome year in 23 and nothing since.

If you watched, you’d also know those stats do tell the story of his night - he was good.

Pretty happy with that performance still plenty to work on but never felt we'd lose it after 10 minutes of watching our defence. Held it together for the full game despite the repeat set pressure.
Most importantly a well set out game plan to the conditions, executed well. Step in the right direction for this team building into a season.
EVeryone played their part and no one over played there hand.
Hopefully we don't see too much of the backs passing near or in our goal line anymore, that was heart attack material.
