MOTORSPORTS Formula 1

Yeah Piastri definitely looks in the zone now, he's levelled up for sure.

On the coverage, pretty poor not to show him crossing the line. The technology was clearly struggling everywhere during the race to be fair though I suppose.

The commentators made a good point though, if not for the terribly timed rain in Aus ironically, Piastri would be a fair way clear in first which is pretty indicative of how strong he's been this year.

Haven't watched it yet. Apparently it was a great race so I'll watch the full rather than the mini when I get home. I woke up just as it started actually, flicked on the TV watched the first lap and promptly fell asleep.

Haha yeah I didn't watch it live, fell asleep too but just watched the replay. It was a good race and honestly, George Russell did amazingly well. He had all sorts of issues with that car, he's turned into a great driver himself.

Lawson continues to go backwards at an impressive rate of knots. Doohan looked great until he didn't. Norris looks like he might not be handling the pressure Oscar is bringing, he looks so unsettled compared to last year. He knows Oscar is gunning for him and has probably moved ahead of him.

The best part about the race was that the tires really made strategy important. It both really benefitted and hindered Ferrari for example.

I would have been very interested how Ferrari would have done if that safety car didn't ruin their plans.

Yeah same, the car really came to life before the safety car...which was for what by the way? It also probably cost Piastri the lead in the championship.

Debris on the track from Sainz and Yuki I believe

Going by previous races done, this has to be one of Oscars best tracks, dominant in F2 here which solidified his title win and hasn't ever been outqualified by Norris here too, out of all the races we have been to till now this is probably his strongest track, he has to make his mark here with a pole and win.

Good call. I really want to see him kick on now. He’s levelled up and Norris is struggling to go with him, I’d love to see him keep the foot down now so to speak.

Piastri Starts second behind Max, Norris crashed in Q3 and will start 10th, Surely Piastri will have the race pace here, hopefully the race strat isn't as stupid as at Suzuka.

Real shit he didn't get pole. I think positions 1 and 3 are probably the best starting positions on this track. It's really easy to be pushed off track or pinched at the opening chicane when starting second.

This is doubled when starting beside Max, who will quite happily make contact.

Piastri just needs to race smart and not be taken out first corner. He’s got the pace and position advantage on Norris, so play the long game. The championship lead is there for him if he races smart.

Max is legitimately incredible, as much as I despise him he just is. But holy shit the narrative about him driving a 'tractor' this season is so overdone.

The RB is clearly still unbelievably quick. Sky showed a 'ghost car' clip of his and Oscars best laps, and you can see the speed that RB has in straight line.

If Oscar stays out of a collision turn 1 and stays 2nd, really good chance to win it.

Wicked start by oscar, to own the apex. Max is shitty, but clearly took his foot of the brake to get the illusion that they were even at the apex and forced off, but he was not making the corner at that speed even if oscar wasn't there.

Red Bull will complain of course about the penalty but it really is impossible to argue. Piastri clearly had more pace, just very well managed race by Oscar.

How good to have him leading the championship and pretty comfortably to be honest. Norris feels a bit of a placeholder in the real fight for the championship between Max and Oscar. Feels a bit like Hamilton v Verstappen a couple of years back. I think this will be a really fun year. You got two extremely good drivers going at it and another really decent driver in a very strong car in Norris but you do feel he is a level below now.

RB and complaining goes hand in hand, but realistically 5s was on the light side anyways, and if he just gave the position, he wouldn't have got anything.

Yep, it was a 50/50 at best for Red Bull...give the place back and race him ffs. Dumb by his team given how much time they had to review it.

Max with a nice, long post-race interview. Continues to prove himself such a likeable young man.
Still, you don’t get to be where he is without ego and arrogance. Well done, Piastri and also well done to Chuck the Clerk.
