THE BOSS Maguire Stomped The Naysayers! But...8 Months Later, Here We Are.

I think it’s fair to say Paddy’s below par game on Wednesday night reflects just how much Maguire has drained him at prop. I recall him in previous origins making a huge difference.

Also, I just cannot get my head around why he’d choose this week to move Cobbo out of FB and slot Arthars in there. I mean Jesse has never played there for us and any practice he might have had in that spot was snuffed out as he was in origin camp all last week. Genius, just a genius move by Gumby NSW boy.

Add to this he calls in Te Kura now saying he had to first earn the spot. We’ll according to 1910 he’s not improved magically this week and is still at the same lumbering standard as he has been all season.

So yeh this snake oil salesman is so full of horseshit and it shits me to tears that he thinks we’re all so dumb that we’ll not see his total dithering.

Seriously, the guy is clueless.

I'm going to say it. Our forward pack sucks. Haas completely covers up their lack of size, go forward and mongrel, or ability to get a quick PTB.

If Madge moves to fix that up, then I'll reserve my judgement.
We have a top 2 quality spine with a wooden spoon quality back row and lock. It's sickening.

Kev is also looking vindicated on leaving Paix out of the side last year: he's stunk it up badly of late.

Cobbo has been dreadful at the back. He just can't physically cope with it and is getting caught out positionally in defence constantly. At least Arthars is fit and won't drift out of the game.

Cobbo is a player who encapsulates our issues as a club right now. All the talent in the world, but no desire or will to go that extra mile to achieve greatness. We need more Arthars and Shibas.

Tremendous rationale there mate. I look forward to your next monosyllable.

Haha now it’s Madge’s fault Queensland sucked on Wednesday night. FMD

Complaining about him not picking BTK all year and now he’s selected, Madge is an idiot.

No one mentioning that Patty got to play lock and didn’t prove us all right that it’s by far his better position

I feel like Carigan looks good with his stats, but has really dropped off in terms of impact. Looks confused and tired a lot of the time - and that's not just from long minutes.

is it fair, perhaps sacrilege, to suggest he's got a bit of josh mcguire about him atm? needlessly gets involved as a link just to touch the ball and shuffle it 5 yards left or right.

run the decoy patty.

Sorry to say, but amongst opposition fans, none of us can understand why a lot of Broncos fans rate this bloke so highly, when the rest of the league think he is highly overrated. The amount of times he does an ineffective hit up on the 4th tackle, completely stiffling your attack, is ridiculous.

The blokes seriously spends more time adjusting his hair/ponytail during the game than actually doing anything impactful for his team.

He's got the balance wrong atm I think. Certainly in 23/24 his involvement was efficient and beneficial. This year he's getting too involved and as you've mentioned (amongst myself and others), he's needlessly stifling attack.
He's still playing well, he can be deceptive at times with the amount of work he gets through, but less is more Patty in terms of hands on the ball.

I mentioned pat’s performance on Wednesday night. For you to make out I was blaming the QLD team performance on Maguire is going past poetic licence.

I alluded to the fact he was in his favoured position but was really too buggered from being overworked to actually make a difference.

But you read it as you want. I’m still fine. You ok?

That would be suggesting Patty is overcalling Reynolds / Bhunt / Ezra.

Our attack has been using the lock as a link man for a while now... you will usually see one of 1,6 or 7 lined up on the blindside with the other 2 on the open.

I'm assuming there are several plays where the link man is required to bridge the distance if one of the halves is missing... or the play just calls for a link man to be involved to try and draw the middle defence in and keep them honest.

Let's not forget that Payne often plays that link role when Patty is off the field.

I actually think that Patty's ball playing isn't utilised enough at this stage.

He should be setting up tip ons with his other forwards, but it doesnt seem like he's got support runners coming with him... he set up Gos for a try in round 1 and almost put Willison over in the same game.

He gets Payne into space a fair bit as well.

I think it becomes a bit too obvious when we are using him as a link man to a backline movement though... that's where Yeo differentiates.

Panthers could be looking at the backline move, but Yeo is good at picking the right time to call his own number and run for 15m with a quick ptb or tip on to a supporting forward.

Need to put options around Patty, which means support runners that actually want the ball and aren't just dawdling a decoy run

I actually think that Patty's ball playing is too limited at this stage.

I wouldn't be surprised if Patty does have a bit of seniority if he calls for it - along with Haas. Or if our hookers/halves just see him moving and take the easy option. You have to question how much eyes up footy we play if it's the latter, feels like we just run through our standard plays and hope for the best. This is just random musing though and probably incorrect.

I don't have a problem with forwards handling the ball for more than just hitups, it works quite well esp if they can put on a bit of footwork at the line and move it on. I just see Carrigan pushing up for these nothing plays esp in backline movements as you've rightly pointed out and it just seems so ... janky. Yeo is the perfect example of getting involved at the right time and it adding another dimension.

As if you wouldn't want him if you could have him. He's just stuffed from carrying the team along with Payne. His last 12-24 months have been excellent, right now he just looks frustrated and completely spent.

It’s just such a self-serving take.

Madge is a bad coach because Patty should be playing lock

Patty plays lock under a different coach and the difference is barely noticeable which is Madge’s fault.

Patty was made to play 71 minutes in an origin game, yet it’s Madge’s fault that he looked gassed.

Payne Haas looked to be coping with the workload though. Hmmm 🤔 Wonder how that fits your narrative

Well Payne is playing his preferred position so your ‘logic’ is way off there, added to that he only played 58 minutes in a much stronger pack so again no comparison.

In fairness, Haas has an unusually big motor for a big guy, that's well documented. He can cope with a lot more than anyone else his size.
