The only issue with them is they are both too soft. Sure they are work horses etc. but they both get bullied by other packs. Really need at least one of them to get some aggression. Alternatively move Pat back to lock and buy a front rower and a second rower that have some aggression and fire. I don't really rate Horsborough, but he is the type of player that we could have used to fire up. Similar to what Flegler offered. If you look at most of the high performing teams they have 1 or 2 high aggression players in their forward pack. we have none. Most of our forwards too busy worrying about their hair and painting their nails, like **** me...Haas and Carrigan arent really problems for this team. Its the rest of them. They actually do the jobs they are in the team to do.
I think defensive intensity is something though... Patty brings some intensity, but he's being left out there too long and loses that intensity as the game goes on.Haas and Carrigan arent really problems for this team. Its the rest of them. They actually do the jobs they are in the team to do.
Welcome to BHQ! Have fun and enjoy!Gday. First post in this Forum.
From a playing style perspective, we need more support play in attack and faster line speed in defense.
I am not convinced that Mariner and Staggs can be in the same backline together. Collectively just not doing enough. Better team composition would be.
1. Walsh
2. Cobbo - Main meter eater and PCM / receipt player, but definitely not worth a pay increase.
3. Mariner - I am done with Staggs in centre.
4. Shiba
5. Arthars - Our best back this year and last year.
Next year,
1. Walsh
2. Arthurs
3. Shibasaki
4. Mariner
5. Anderson
Doesn't sound too bad at all, as morepudding mentioned.
I'd consider the Staggs on the bench as impact player through the middle though, or 2nd row and 2nd backup if someone gets injured. That would work, but you'd have to still sign him on less or the same amount as current. If that doesn't work, then RIki should go on the bench instead.
I'd also keep Piakura / Willison 2nd row combination. According to the stats per minutes played, they are the best option out of all our second-row combinations. Riki is just missing too many tackles, and Piakura effort areas have improved a lot more. He should be defending next to Reyno instead. Willison has helped that left side defense a bit more too.
CJ and BTK do fine on the bench, they are solid. And Paix is definitely our best defensive hooker, but he needs to run more, which is what Walters does, and I feel like Walters has a bigger presence when playing than Paix.
Even something like this would help with leg speed and better bench utilisation.
9. Walters - Hooker / Utility
14. Staggs - Center backup / Hooker (Staggs used to be a half, so I am sure he can manage a few minutes in the middle for Walters to catch his breath)
15. CJ
16. BTK
17. Riki - Second Row backup / Middle (Could help with the rotation of Willison/Kobe/Piakura. And his stats through the middle aren't too bad, it is just that Piakura and Willison are better in 2nd row starting.
Madge just needs to try something wild to invoke a reaction from the squad. Weed out the weak players that are causing this turmoil.

Yeah, 100%. We need a little bit of dog and intensity littered through the pack.I think defensive intensity is something though... Patty brings some intensity, but he's being left out there too long and loses that intensity as the game goes on.
Haas is a catch and wrap defender from minute 1 to minute 80... Lehi went straight through him in the first set last night. Qld were able to get some post contact meters through him on Wednesday, but didn't actually target him enough through the game.
As strong as he is, he isn't even winning and dominating the wrestle... I wouldn't care as much about a catch and wrap guy, if he used those extra couple meters to get a good grip and turn them onto their back every time. That was the art of Cam Smith's defence... his upper body strength was insane and his ability to stop middle forwards 1v1 and get them onto their back.
I think if we were to lose say Haas, then we would need to replace him with a guy that brings defensive intensity... we don't seem to have anyone leading the linespeed and keeping that intensity up throughout the game

I bet if Karl Morris was gone he'd be pushing for a come backI'm not really on board with anyone being overly critical of those tbh. They arent perfect, and they could do things themselves better, but i think they are the least of our worries at the moment. We seem all over the place on and off the field. Coach seems clueless and the players look like they have less of a game plan than we had under Kevvie.
At this rate, we will be going back to Wayne soon!
Something has seemed off since the scuffle with reynolds. They have laughed it off in the media, but you can't help but think there is still some split in the squad.I know this will upset a few here but Carrigan could be too.
You know what they say, third times a charm.....At this rate, we will be going back to Wayne soon!
100% this, and if there is none available in the NRL look for a big hard man in the UK. We are absolutely missing that. Flegler use to annoy me so much as he gave away so many penalties, but looking back now he was so important. The only time we truly see a massive shot from any of our players is the odd time Piakura puts a shot on, sadly that's all he offers. The only issue with them is they are both too soft.
