Hoeter looked slow in the trials .
Got run around a cpl of times . He would be exposed in NRL if he hasn`t improved his acceleration markedly .
And given his age and injury history, that improvement isn’t happening. He’s been a good squad man but he’s done.
And the one thing that the broncos dont/cant do, which Sydney teams probably have a better chance of doing, is if he just drops back to a normal Qcup contract next year we could have him drop into one of our affiliate teams (Wynnum, Souths, etc.)... so if desperate times come then we can always call on him under a train and trial deal after round 11.
That way he isn't signed up to a Top 30 contract.
Same could be done with Leota, Jhunt, Gos, Rogers, etc.
Basically any guy that doesnt get a first grade spot somewhere could be picked up by our affiliate (at the request of the broncos) and we can then call on them if needed... without having to spend a top 30 spot on them.
Of course if they get another NRL deal or whatever elsewhere then good for them... but at least it could be used to flesh out some train and trial guys that could/can play NRL if needed in a pinch... because at the moment it doesnt seem like there are guys at the next level that can be called upon so we are stuck with the top 30 and dev deal guys.
The affiliate team gets guys that trained with an NRL team for the year... putting them in good physical condition compared to the rest of the comp.
Rinse and repeat year on year... grab some more guys from the affiliates, train them with the NRL team and then drop them back in qcup to keep building up the quality of that lower competition and our affiliates.
Could be a win win for broncos (increased depth to call on without using top 30 spots) and the affiliates (their players exposed to higher training standards, etc.), which could start to make it very beneficial for qcup teams to want to be an affiliate with the broncos
