Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2025

Yeah it was a total farce their commentary. Cobbo has gone missing this time of year more frequently than not.

The reality is if he can't manage a season and requires a mid year holiday than he is worth 300k. That's it, the million dollar talk came from the media and no one else. As soon as he went to fullback they wanted his price to go up up and up. But it went the opposite way. It's on Selwyn, he is out of shape and playing cup. It doesn't matter if he was in Origin or played for Australia. He is currently playing cup and from the sounds isn't dominating there.

I remember a guy named Walker who played for the Roosters. What a talent, one of the most pure footy players going. But I doubt many remember him even dominating a stacked Broncos side in the late 90s and I strongly doubt anyone would remember his Rugby career. Due to him not being able to tolerate the requirements of playing professional sport. It would be a shame to lose Cobbo from the game all together like Walker but the game has progressed way further than the 90s in professionalism and not everyone can handle it.

Instead of just saying the Broncos are low balling him. How about saying Cobbo is wasting his talent by not committing to the requirements of professional sport.

Fox talking about it like it's all broncos fault about these "crisis talks" and only being able to offer him $300k.

Why is their focus not about what is going on inside Cobbo's head?

The media is so oblivious to actual mental health... they talk a nothing game when it's staring them right in the face.

This story to me is all about the longevity of Cobbo in the game and his current headspace.. and all they want to focus on is $300k and ragebait about broncos trying to sneak in him at "half price"... no one is forcing him to sign a contract... he can sign wherever the hell he wants.

The real question is... Does he even want to sign something?
They’re saving that for when he doesn’t sign, then they can ragebait about how the Bronx low-balled him, didn’t care about his personal issues or welfare, were culturally insensitive probably, blah, blah, blah…

If he does sign, they can pivot to discussing our cap and these “implications”…

Yeah to me the story should be about... "we can't lose Cobbo from the game".

Is that not what "crisis talks with elders" are all about... like broncos may not want to pay you $600k, but don't throw it all away.

The game is looking to introduce two new teams and a guy that looked a shoe-in for the Qld origin team is potentially looking to walk away from the game.. but nah Sydney's focus is "broncos shouldn't be allowed to sign a guy like that for $300k... he can play anywhere and still visit Cherbourg"... that's not the ****ing story here you idiots.

The guy looks a fair way off first grade at the moment and the story really should be about getting Selwyn back into a position where he's playing NRL again... whether that's for broncos or another team... and not some bullshit fluff piece from his manager "that he's all good and just needs a team to take a chance on him" to get a Sydney team to give him a payday so he fails from it and walks away in 6 months time ala James Roberts.

Is this real??

I saw today that DFifi has apparently reached out to Uncle Wayne to save him... depending on how Souths salary cap is looking I wonder if they would have to make a decision between Fifita or Cobbo.

I'd imagine they'd be taking Fifi in that situation, which could leave Selwyn without another suitor.

When you're getting down to $300k for Cobbo... there would be a number of teams interested... whether they have his best interest at heart is another question.
They don’t have the space to sign either of them.

Yeah to me the story should be about... "we can't lose Cobbo from the game".

THIS MASTHEAD is currently "revealing" the club is about to enter "crisis talks" with Selwyn and a bunch of Aboriginal Elders over fears he might chuck in the towel and walk away from the game. They're calling it "Operation Save Selwyn." Presumably from himself.

THIS MASTHEAD reckons they can only afford to pay him around $300k.
If this is real then do you really want to sign a player for even 300k with doubts about their commitment and future? I mean hopefully he's ok but I dunno if the club is in a position for these sorts of signings. One win against the spooners doesn't change how poorly we are going.

I was referring to Fox's discussion of it as part of post football show... Yvonne, Brandy and Kevvie
Kev all year has been commenting in a very passive aggressive undermining way on Fox and his podcast. Doing his best to imply that if we manage to keep the talent we want something is happening.

Plenty of clubs apparently manage to keep who they want because the players are willing to stay on less money. I don't think I have heard any other re-signing questioned to the point of suggesting that the NRL not register the contract. It's now happened with Hunt, Reynolds and Cobbo. You can bet your bottom dollar Paynes contract will be given the same treatment.

Yet the Dogs can sign whoever they like.

Hmm……… I have a different opinion to it.
Given that we’ve already reached out for help from the Indigenous community for Cobbo, the truce would be that he signs a discounted deal with us for 2026 out of loyalty and be on his way to Perth from 2027 onwards.

If not, he sits out of the game in 2026 & still sign with Perth from 2027. Both ways, I see him being a target for Perth Bears.

I think no matter what he'll sign a 1 yr deal.

Can't see any team wanting to take a risk on him longer than that... especially if he's moving away from Brisbane and Cherbourg.

Cobbo and his manager probably don't want to go much longer than that either, simply because his next deal is likely to be a much lower than what his manager values him at.

Most likely to be a prove it deal in the hope that he can get some form back and then the manager can look to sign a bigger longer contract.

It's that where Kevvie said he was easy to coach, and that, yeah, he gets a bit homesick? He plays fullback, centre and wing, too. Who else can do that? Well, Herbie, for one. And we all saw what happened there.

And where did Selwyn end up last time he played centre and fullback?

Cobbo on a reduced deal circa 300k is no problem at all for mine as long as it's 1 year deal. I know its an if, but we all know there is a great player in there if it can be unlocked, paying him on the lower end to keep him with the club, I just dont think anyone loses. He still has his prime years ahead of him, maybe like Cody his better years come later on

Talent isn't enough.

Talent isn't enough.
Its not, which is why you simply can't offer him that big 2 or higher year deal at this point in time. Give him 1 year and see how much he really wants it

What use is his talent if he's stinking up training?
