Big year for Souths and Bennett next year. 2025 was a write off, but the signs aren't looking much better heading into 2026 and he needs to produce some green shoots. Souths actually have a decent side on paper but there's a few deficiencies in their line-up.

This is how I have them lining up:

1. Latrell Mitchell
2. Alex Johnston
3. Jack Wighton
4. Isaiah Tass
5. Campbell Graham
6. Cody Walker
7. Jamie Humphries
8. Keaon Koloamatangi
9. Brandon Smith

10. Jai Arrow
11. Euan Aitken
12. CONEHEAD Duncan
13. Cameron Murray

14. Peter Mamouzelos

15. Lachlan Hubner
16. Tevita Tatola/Liam Le Blanc/Sean Keppie
17. Bronson Garlick/Max McCarthie

Not a bad side, but they're a little anemic in the forwards and there's some serious question marks over their marquee players. Bennett's biggest challenge will be trying to replace the likes of Walker, Johnston, Arrow etc. moving forward. They just look short of one quality front row and one quality back row.

Not a fan of Gray? I actually wonder whether Souths and Mitchell might be better served with him playing centre moving forward.

Expectations for south’s were pretty low so I don’t think we can take too much out of the game. The try they let in 10secs before halftime was very frustrating and probably shows yet again that they just have this softness about them.

Maybe I am being overly critical but I thought Billy was a bit disappointing in defence, he got caught out a few times and looked gassed, which is surprising given the type of game it was & that he didn’t see many minutes.

Thought Cobbo was mostly good. Came looking for the ball and provided some good hit ups.
Looks trim so good to see he went back and worked hard.

Reece did what we wanted. Less is more. Backed up well and linked up well providing the extra man.
Let the halves do their thing and was there to take advantage.
Good to see some depth in our backline which gives Staggs some room and let's him hit gaps at speed.

Talty is handy. Love the way he hits straight and hard close to the line. If he doesn't get it the pass out the back becomes more dangerous. Something we've been missing.

Nice win and we made some improvements from last week but hard to get carried away at the same time.

Seemed like we played smarter, more switched on tonight. Main thing for me was seeing us leap on every dropped ball and immediately look to counter-attack. Most weeks this year we’ve reacted to those by relaxing and waiting for our set to start. Kotoni snatching that ball from marker was another great example, better game awareness plus a bit more cut-throatedness.

Looking forward to Fletcher Baker next week

That's an option, but I still think he's willing to gamble on Latrell at fullback even though the experiment has yet to pan out.

When both Reece & Ezra were in the clear couple of times, it seemed like both of them are not at their full speed. It definitely looked like they’re not 100% & have leg/thigh issues. Fingers crossed, nothing bad happens.

The inside outside pass between them is absolute class & feast for the eyes. Loved it!

I ****en love Jai Arrow. Great player. Great attitude. Every team needs a player like that.

If the movie dodgeball taught me anything other than the 5 D’s it’s to get ANGRY.

We’d be far better off with an attitude like Jai’s than most of ours. He didn’t care about injury excuses or it being to hard, he wanted to win. Something we don’t want enough.

Tried his guts out and a bit of grub, passion and anger doesn’t hurt and it certainly did not hurt that bunnies side.

Walsh was really good during our 5 match winning streak while wearing his knee brace.

He takes his knee brace off last week against the Eels. His performance was less than perfect.

Back in the knee brace tonight and he was awesome

🤔

We should make him wear it until this happens, then we'll see the best of him.

It's hard to be critical after watching our boys put 60 on the Bunnies.
There were a few things that disappointed me.
Firstly, Cobbos piss poor effort with the first try.
Second, conceding a try after the half-time siren
Third, Riki makes a tremendous line break and runs out of gas, that in its self is not a problem, but how do we end up conceding a try at the end of this.
Shame about Willisons injury, hope it's not season ending.
Not getting to carried away by the result against a NSW cup side, the Bunnues have a horrific injury crisis at present.
The important thing is that it is a huge confidence boost and our for and against is looking healthy, particularly with Redcliffe continuing to pick up wins. The big test will be the 2 Storm games.

It was a great result and a good performance.

We definitely seemed to play a bit smarter and calmer than we have for most of the year.

Unfortunately, we've also seen that this squad has a penchant for getting carried away, and a part of me is worried some of the boys will look purely at the scoreline and think they're all that.

We need to look at where we can improve, stay focused, and keep putting the hard work in. It is paying off, so stay patient and keep at it please lads.
