Kotoni only really exploded in form after his extension was announced. Was going in and out of games before that, but agree that this is his best finish to a season yet.

He's giving captaincy vibes atm

I hate how we exploit a loophole in the rules once and now the media class us as one of the cynical teams. Our inability or reluctance to bend the rules is one of our biggest weaknesses! Dolphins play the ball average was 3.15 seconds. I doubt the storm have allowed a single play the ball happen that quickly let alone an average over a match!

So we need to double and triple down, lean into it. Cheating and taking advantage of rules wins you competitions these days sadly.

Disrupted pre season .
Hurt himself in the trials ? Had a few weeks out if I recall .

I actually thought Kotoni played well on his initial return. He had a tough assignment in Herbie Farnworth and he rose to the occassion getting the better of his former team mate.

After that he was enigmatic, you could count on the odd run where he'd break out of tackles, but he was missing plenty himself and rarely troubling the scorers which is what you want out of him.

Like a lot of Broncos, that Round 14 win against the Titans woke him up and he's had some of his best performances following it.

Still even in a win against Cronulla where he made 4 line-breaks, 10 tackle-breaks and 200m+ he still had some poor defensive lapses that caused Brisbane to have to come from behind.

I find him frustrating to watch. There are times where the team desperately needs him and he's coasting on the right edge or he turns the ball over because he has to make something happen. I was incredibly disappointed with his performance against the Storm. The forward pack lifted, won the ruck and he barely wanted to touch the ball or even compete on kicks.

Lets not forget though, he started the year with an injury and that's a good explanation of a few quieter games at the start of the season. He's been excellent.
He was hot garbage against Parra and about half the games this year.
The very winnable games where you need him to get in and do the hard yak from the back and lead with action he doesn't do near enough.
He has moments in those games but the main criticism is he's happy to coast when it suits and he's on big $ for a centre.
Anyway, we know he is very good let's hope he can maintain some form to finish the year.
I absolutely loved his game on Saturday. Haven't seen a lot of him hitting holes and trusting the pass, when he does he's great fun to watch and causes massive problems for the D.

Our defensive systems, line speed and winning of the ruck is still not there. These are things that require very little talent, and even with injuries, these are not impacted too much.

When we have injuries, and combinations are affected, we can't depend on defence or the above attributes to keep us in the game.

We are lucky the dolphins defence was just as poor, and we could outscore them with individual talent.
I think we have to cut the boys some slack. When for no reason at all you get back to back infringements it's hard not to get gun-shy. A lot of the sloppy ruck control was just about 6 again panic.

When refereeing is a farcical as it is currently, the only way to overcome it is to be a darling club or take the game out of the NRLs hands. We are not a darling so we have to do what the boys did and just brute force the game our way again.

Just posted this in the Conspiracy thread - thanks to Rugby League Eye Test.
We are copping it fair in the clacker.

Jeez. We started off ok for the 1st month, but then it all went to hell. Canberra doing well for copping a bit though.
Canberra's tactic is to live offside on their goal line... if they were even remotely close to even they'd be undefeated for the amount of shit the refs would have to let go every game.

Looks like their fortunes changed after round 9 when they beat storm in magic round.... I can't recall if Sticky had a blow up in a presser, but wouldn't surprise me if something happened for the refs to suddenly change their mind about how they play

Saw an article from Fox League posted on FB going on about how Reece Walsh taking a dive on Saturday after the crusher tackle was a disgrace. Yet no mention of the two Redcliffe players who did it earlier in the game.

What's with this. Is there a media agenda against us? Or have they found that talking shit about Brisbane gets social media engagement?

Yes

edit: actually I’ll expand on my answer. I think it’s a self-sustaining cycle that they couldn’t be happier with

More people hate us than love us, so they maintain an agenda by stoking the fires of hate against us, which gets them the clicks, and just to spit in our face even further, do it by using our owner’s media company.

It’s both twisted and pathetic

The second part, there was another article about him having a horror game because he kicked out on the full and the second thing was the pass that Karapani didn’t catch.
