Raiders too. It was exquisite to see from the ground. Meaney and Howarth will hateeeeee that shape with a passion, as will Hughes having to shift laterally into tackles with his shoulder and arm.

What I do admire about Penrith, is their ability to play flat, then instantly switch to having deep attacking structures from their edges. They move the point of attack, from one side, to the other, very quickly. That's not us unfortunately.

I do think we'll find joy with Reece looking for a Payne offload in the area your talking about. It's Ezras job to support Reece in that.

Melbourne will put us to sleep if we just do hit ups, followed by a kick chase. The grind.

Inside the 20m I think we rely too much on trying to get it to the edges and using block plays.

The defence is too close and always offside nowadays so they can get up and shut it down.

Need to be better at creating a quick ptb with the backrowers 1v1 on the halves.

It's criminal that we are soo ****ing bad at using Haas close to the line... bloke should be near double digits in tries each year and representing a massive threat on crash balls, but we seem to use him for the settler runs.

His ptb isnt all that quick so he's actually one of the worst to play off the back of.... and he seems to get it flat footed wanting to use his footwork to try and get through players, instead of just running a really hard line.

I dont really know what the answer is for our attack inside the 20m, but we seem to have most of our success off kicks from Reyno to Riki, Staggs, etc. Walsh cut out to Shiba (if they dont get picked off)... and maybe Paix trying to steal one if he gets close to the line.

I think we need more of Patty hitting his forwards short (forces the defence to respect that link man and open up for the backline), instead of just being an obvious link man out the back that doesnt threaten the line.

Id probably want Walsh playing closer to the ruck... so line up Reynolds and Walsh as first receivers either side of the ruck.

Walsh is pretty great at skipping across the line and hitting forwards with short balls... let him get the ball early instead of having to wait in the backline for someone jamming him... it's too predictable.

Get the ball in Walsh and Reynolds hands and the defence will have to hold off, because those two can pick the pass if the defence over commits.
 
Just had one of those crazy moments moments to myself where I realised in 48 hours I am going to be driving to the GF. JFC, can barely believe it. I did believe in the squad though even though it was fleeting at times, maybe my believe was because of how the rest of the comp was going, but those dark times this year against Manly, Dragons, Souths. My word. Even against the Phins in August. 28-14 and we are in a GF. Wtffffff

Surely we aren't dropping Paix after all the lead up commitments where he has had to front up, etc. Surely you aren't starting Bunt on the bench. And if you are starting Bunt, surely you aren't bringing Paix on as your impact hooker, he is a tackle bot.

I can't see any good reason for Mam to start.

Hunt starting at 6 and moving to hooker ensures we have 80 minutes of him on the field. We are a better team with his calmness and leadership under pressure.

Mam coming on at 6 at 30 minutes is perfect for his zip and also his lack of match fitness coming back from the hammy injury.

All of the above allows Paix to ride the pine for the last 50 minutes.

If Mam starts, I'd drop Paix all together and bring another forward onto the bench and have Smoothy as our bench hooker.

Not to mention that Mam can be a weak point in the defensive line, so having Bhunt there might be that bit more experience in the early stages and maybe a bit more solid defending against Katoa.

Even though Bhunt looked to be the cause for the first try last week.

But I do think the main reason we go as named is to have Bhunt on the field for 80mins... he just seems like a guy that is really vocal across the group and keeping them focussed on the game.

Ezra doesnt really need 80mins to have an impact on the game... let him come on after 30mins when there should be some fatigue in the game... have a coach in his ear talking through shit that's happening on the field for him to focus on and exploit when he gets out there

Do you think a win in this game means more to us than some of the younger members of the squad?

A Karapani or a Mariner for example?

I know they live and breath this and it is their sole purpose to win a premiership; but they are so young that they haven't experienced the heartache that we all have over this journey.

That was mostly Ezra with selective passes .
And him receiving the ball at full stretch . Shredded their right side .

Piakura to cause recurring nightmares .
His footwork is what can force Hughes into legs tackles . Also Payne veering left just to wear him down .
Although that fend he put on with his bung arm last week looked strong .

Hard to say - they could have been fans too over the last decade or so. The older heads, the coach, and even everyone from that 2023 team will be driving how important this game is. I think they realise how big this game is - hopefully they dont get overwhelmed.
