GRAND FINAL WEEK Brisbane Broncos vs Melbourne Storm

There's been lots of talk about how teams that have entered the grand final on a hot streak with a fullback that is flying have been stopped in the grand final by Melbourne. But the way the Panthers play is much more similar to the style of football those previous Storm sides played than this current one.

Define flying.

You've got Barba in '12 and Hayne in '09, but Barba in '16 went into that flying. Stewart had scored 9 tries in 6 games going into '08.

I'm not a betting man, but if Payne Haas gets the ball withing 10 metres of the line he's odds on to be going over. There is no way the cheats' defence will hold this machine out.

He wants it so bad.

I think he's saved his best 'till last and I'm even tipping him for the CC medal.

I’ll throw some on this as well. 8-1 seems like money printer goes brrrrrr

Which one of you degenerates is this?

Going through Melbourne's Grand Finals victories.

2007 - It's 10-4 Melbourne when Crocker and Slater wipe Stewart out of the game. Manly are sitting ducks at this point and Melbourne go onto win 34-8. If this happened now, Crocker would have been sent off and Slater likely would have got 10 if not sent off himself. It's crazy that wiping out the fullback was an acceptable part of the game back then.

2009 - Parramatta nearly pulled off one of the most remarkable comebacks in history. Storm were very good for the majority of the game, then Chambers played at a short drop-out and it was all Parramatta from that point. Eels were well on top, Slater made a mistake and Archer's arm went the wrong way with Melbourne receiving the penalty. A very nervous win.

2012 - Their best GF win under Bellamy. A Grand Final for the purists with both teams defending well and Melbourne having to vary their attack to break Des' defensive systems down. A tight win, but well orchestrated by Bellamy and co.

2017 - That may have been the most charmed premiership run ever. No injuries, no loss of form, everyone else falling apart and a comfortable 34-6 win to cap it off. Cowboys needed everything to go right and from the outset, they lost Fensom and the Storm drew first blood from a kick return.

2020 - Felt like the reverse of 2006 where everything that could go Melbourne's way did. Penalty try, ricochet try, intercept try and in the end the difference was a scrum try where the inexperienced Panthers were falling apart. Granted, unlike 2006, the losing team received some calls to get back into it but it wasn't the most convincing win ever. 26-20, and Melbourne finished the game with 11 players on the field.

I'm reading this @Big Pete and thinking to myself they've been fairly arsey in a few finals. I'm also thinking they were probably expecting pen ref to beat us and were quietly preparing mentally for a supreme effort on Sunday to revenge last year.

I'm hoping (and bellyache will be well aware of this and try to stamp it out) I'm hoping a few of the team mentally relaxed a tad when they saw pen ref were gone. All we need is them to drop their intensity by 1 or 2 percent and we'll bag and tag them.

We've got this!

I think in this context yes.

But yeah he’s also lost 5 grand finals so WW point is probably valid
I was also thinking of Bellamy’s origin record as well, not just the grand finals. I think he was involved with the blues again this year and we know the result.

Yep fair fair... I thought his premiership record was better tbh and just in the context of winning big games I think it's ok to include the cheat years but obv not for their premiership count.

He was up against a team of goats in origin tbf..

Ironic since the Storm are a bunch of spineless cats.
They will be diving everywhere looking for soft high shot penalties, hip drops, etc.... if the bunker starts ****ing paying them then it will be bullshit and we will have to do the same, which will turn the game into a stop start penalty fest

Refs know you don't get the good games if you do stop/start, so they'll just get away with it. Until the Broncos do it.

Klein in the bunker though ….
