POST GAME [PREMIERS, 2025] Broncos vs Storm

I keep thinking about the final opposition plays of both the GF and prelim final - in both cases the Broncos were defending in their own half, and in both cases I was petrified the Panthers and Storm were going to try some risky football, find a crack and get over the line.

Prelim: Panthers in two minds from the PTB. Cleary runs back towards the 40m, crap pass so he has to run it back, Broncos well up on him so he has to pass to Edwards for a harder angle. Edwards has support nearby at this point, with a broken line in front of him, but he still chooses the dropkick option, which is a tough one even without pressure and he fluffs it. Chin Dynasty over.

Grand Final: Just outside the 20, Kangaroos hooker Grant passes to Kangaroos five eighth Munster who turns it back into MacDonald who doesn’t know why he has it, so he passes it back to Grant. They’ve made 0 metres at this point. Grant passes right to Meaney who figures forward is better, but Katoa isn’t into it, so he passes back to… HGRiki. A stunning -15m play after the siren.

No structure, no belief, no ice in their veins. Put the Broncos into those positions for those two plays, and they get it done. Thinking about it now, the only reason I was terrified they were going to magically make it across the stripe is because I could see the Broncos doing it… but I forgot the Broncos are built different.

I don't think broncos would've ****ed around like Hughes did trying to get a penalty.

Broncos potentially get 1-2 tackles in... and one of those would've been a Haas run looking to skittle the line.

Pretty sure the clock stopped for that, didn’t it? Anyway playing for a penalty is in Storm’s DNA, a quick play the ball gets Hughes sent to the reserves for a year

Rewatching the Walsh try with sheer determination from him to score reminds me of Alan Cann's effort in the preliminary final against the dogs in 1993 to get us into the grand final. Utterly brilliant from Walsh not just speed and agility but strength and determination.
