OFFICIAL Jonah Pezet to join Broncos in 2027

Tautau Moga had a good year and left for money and disappeared a year or two later
Jayd'n Sua had a great year, broke his leg but left for money
DFifi left for money
Didn't Denan Kemp leave for a better offer and then disappeared a few years later entirely

Sometimes, leaving for money or a "better offer" doesn't pay

Herbie though is a counter argument, Dearden, Capewell, Walsh initially are all a bit of counter point. You could also argue Bullemor, Collins and Simpkin too if you really want to.

You could indeed. Maybe it’s a 50% chance

I guess you weigh up getting 200-300k in a good successful side, maybe a ring or two or 500k on struggle street with a crowd against you every time you lose

Paix was over-shadowed by Dearden to the point where Broncos officials were shuffling Paix into dummy half to fit Dearden into the team.

Paix had a physicality to his play that lent itself well to the dummy half position. Coming through the juniors he resembled a young Kieran Foran in so far that he'd dig deep into the line to buy his supports as much time as possible.

On the other hand, Black relies on his skill-set and is at his best when his instincts take over and he plays backyard footy. Otherwise he's very much a 'get to your kick' type of halfback.

I wouldn't write Coby off. He's only 19 years of age, the challenge for him is going to be asserting himself on the field. If he can impose himself more and play tougher he can go a long way in this code.

One aspect I do like about him is his cover defence. There was that JT/Dearden esque quality where he'd always chase a break no matter how futile it seemed.

Tanah Boyd , Ben Hunt ?

Not sure they can claim it's "blindsided" when they literally planned for this and built in a get out of contract clause around it. lol

They thought Hughes was going to Qld .
Then he changed his mind . According to Braith .

It seems Black is obviously not coming on as well as the club would have wanted to see.......

Is Mozer falling into the same category.....? If he's not playing NRL "fulltime" next year, you'd have to assume so.

I always thought this year would be his full year, it didn't work out and injuries, slow start to the year, Souths being hard work and the form of Walters, Paix and Smoothy all conspired against Mozer.

But I think you're right it makes 26 a big year for him, he's 22 in May, played 50 Cup games now so he's really passed that young rookie stage and right in the sweet spot for playing 25 NRL games in a season.

He's signed until the end of 27 and with Smoothy and Walters out of action there is a spot there for him.

The interesting aspect is Bukowski who is only 12 months younger than Mozer but just finished his first year of Cup so he's 30 games behind him and his form is certainly not better but he's right there.

The big tick in Bukowski's box is he had good finals form, played well against the Bears they were down 16-8 and he took the Bears on to give Wynnum a chance at 16-14. It was very mature, then the following week was a leader again, kicked a 40/20 and scores three tries. There was nothing special about the tries just good awareness and green light running for a hooker.

Mozer has only had one chance in finals in Cup in 23 and that's fading a bit now. He was good and against Easts nearly won them the game with a late try and one on one steal.

Bukowski throws the nicest pass out of everyone, but Mozer has more guile and smarts. Bukowski a better traditional defender he can snap blokes back- like against Redcliffe game but Mozer holds and keeps it slow.

I think they're closer than they should be for double the games and having played NRL Mozer should be further along.

Tanah Boyd , Ben Hunt ?
T. Boyd was in a similar position to Paix. They were the best young halves of their age but with Dearden coming through he was viewed as a surplus and the Broncos were fine with granting him an early release.

By the time Ben Hunt emerged, the club had already gone through Brett Seymour and Berrick Barnes. Both were highly touted teenage halfback sensations and Ben Hunt didn't have their skill-set.

In fact of that age group, he placed third to Gerard Beale and Andrew McCullough who were considered the future of the club.

Hunt caught everyone by surprise with his Toyota Cup form but then there was the regression to the mean in the 2010s and it was believed his future would be as a #14.

It wasn't until the club lost Corey Norman and reneged on Peter Wallace that Hunt received his opportunity and again surprised everyone until his form regressed after the heart-ache of 2015.

As an aside, I don't think the officials were out of touch on Beale. Gerard was in a similar position as Kahu where the best laid plans just didn't come to fruition. Both endured so many serious injuries so early on that it limited what they were capable of.

McCullough on the other hand was an example of somebody who was adept at a young age but didn't have much room to grow.

Coates, Bullemore, Hosking ... all on the heels of breakout seasons ... the list goes on and on. People rate Coates these days but (imho) Bellyache has converted into something of a one-trick pony, I reckon he would have been even better had he stayed at Redhill.

Pretty sure Kemp never wanted to leave. There was a squeeze.

He has a massive mouth; not sure how that translates to halfbacks. I don't recall many halfbacks with huuuuuge mouths
