Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

I really hope these players look into these “tax exemptions”. Like others have said, it’s not as easy as work overseas and boom no tax. Especially with their high profile names, when they come back to Aus, you just know the ATO will be taking every dollar that they can from them.

Not sure that’s the case for PNG, Samoa, Tonga and NZ mate.

Being fair though, apart from PNG most of the other players are all Australian born or Australia based players, and there isnt really a competition for League in any other country but England and Australia. The interest in RL is still basically Australia and basically the northwest of England.

Getting real tired of all this R360 talk tbh, I had thought by now people would be used to NRL Journalist just making shit up for engagement and clicks.
But seeing how much has been posted in the last few days I can see why.

World Wide not 1 single player has signed up, not 1 single sponsor has not been publicly confirmed and no Broadcast Deal either. But out of all the Sporting Journalist in the world it's Brent F**KING Read that has the inside scoop on the first R360 Player to sign up.

lol
lamo even.

The whole Tax free pay, is also not that simple. Payne would have to up an move his entire Family to UAE/Dubai and for some time as well. He cant just live here and be paid there, plus you can guarantee Mr TaxMan would be paying close attention, they do love going after famous people.

Even if he paid the Australia tax rate though he would still get more money. He could stay with us and take 45% of 1.3 million, or sign with R360 and take 45% of $3 million. So basically, $715k a year at the Broncos, or $1.65 million a year in R360. Either way, its a no brainer.

I was wondering the same when it came to PNG.

Sure you'll be tax free in PNG, but are you living there year round.. because if you are planning to FIFO and mostly be in Australia, then I'm not sure it's staying tax free

Italy just beat the Wallabies... it seems like Europe is where League needs to look for expansion.

Where did all those European teams come from in Union... France, Scotland, Ireland, Wales, etc. all used to be absolute rubbish in union, but now they're winning 6 nations and whatnot.

I think the politics between union and league is probably what hinders league being able to genuinely expand though.

Comments around the Cook Islands vs South Africa yesterday indicated that League was illegal in South Africa until recently and is still illegal in some sort of fashion.

Union has always been pretty big in Wales and France tbf. Wales at one point in time were superb, iirc they are the second most successful team in the 6 nations behind England. We have seen sides like Italy and Argentina slowly improve to the point where they are genuinely competitive now.

Haas for one more season while Fleggy returns to the game for The, kills it, and returns home in 27.

Still don't think Haas goes though.

As much as I want Payne to stay, he needs to recommit to the broncos now.

If not, let him go and sign Tino.

Will the ARL / NRL bring in cricket Australia type contracts for their top players to stop players from leaving.
You can bet Vlando will have some contingencies in case this R360 gets traction.

thought the nrl had discretionary power to pay players outside the cap to stop players jumping codes?

Is he getting the pay from his entire contract up front?
Because he would be betting his entire future financial earnings on r360 at least 3 years.
It doesn't an he's up shit creek, he cant go back to the NRL, going to France or Japan with his entire Family isn't an option, what about an Australian RU team, will the Reds offer him 1.5m a year ?

It's not as easy for a RL Forward to just jump into a RU Team an be as good. Backs, yes, but he would have to master Scrums, Rucks, Malls, Lineouts and all the other little things that make a player worth the $.

As others have said this isn't the Saudi sportswashing machine that can throw billions without blinking, this is 3 Pom's and some rumored UAE/Dubai investors no ones even been able to confirm exist.

Put that against a League that has existed for 117 years and is still going strong and one of Australians most well know and profitable Football Club's.

New Broadcast deal coming end of 2027, it's would not be surprising if Payne was on 1.5m when that's done, add in third party deals which our Club can do better than pretty much anyone else, add in making him the face of a 20 year Premiership drought wining team, then there's life after Football.
Coaching, Media, Club Role all there for him if he wants it.

yeah it does seem like a no brainer to me as well.

I don't think he's going to go, the journos just have nothing to write about currently.

This time last year the journos had Mam going to Kerobokan, Ben Hunt vs Flanno, Kevvy tears, and Madge vs the old boys. Literally nothing to write about atm.

Yeah but that's per year, you have to factor in how long R360 will pay him $3m and how long we will pay him $1.3m.
It's far from a no-brainer.
