OFFICIAL Coby Black to join Raiders in 2026, He's Gone

I haven’t seen enough of him but I really hope we haven’t ****ed this up.
I like what I’ve seen from Pezet and it looks like we’ve got chips all in. Interesting signing with the faiders given he is unlikely to start at 7 in their current lineup.

What a complete schmozzle. Here's what should've happened:

1. Reynolds released or on minimum wage in 2026.
2 Pezet to Broncos in 2026.
3. Black to Canberra in 2026.
4. Hunt, Reynolds and Pezet to fight it out for 7.
5. Duffy to bench or depth.

Spine: mix and match to taste. Walters unavailable until round 16.

unsure if this is a loss for us or not.
all I hear about is how this black kid is going to be a future star for ages.
but have never seen much from him to suggest otherwise
has a decent boot on him but that's it.

still from a qld point of view it is a little tough to be losing a potentially great qld kid because of another nsw welsman.

i also really don't rate pezet yet either.
seems decent but so many players do seem decent until they leave that Melbourne system.

BHQ has been talking Black up for ages. History suggests, that was going to be career ending for him.
If you consider recent history - Our track record of buying Halfbacks from Melbourne is much more sinister than our track record of over hyping young players!

Dearden and Croft both spring to mind in that regard.

Because we kept failing , any hope was positive

I wouldn’t have minded giving him a go before deciding. Mam had a blinder on debut (if you ignore the first 25 mins), maybe CB would’ve been the same.

This guy was being talked about as the second coming of Jesus from the age of 17. We can't trial all the kids on the books.

Bound to happen. Sadly for him that first grade position was long gone. No matter what Reynolds said (about Pezet and him fighting for the position) we all know Pezet isn’t fighting for that position and it’s his already. Anasta isn’t stupid, he would’ve made sure Pezet has got this position locked in before signing. I don’t think he’s first grade ready and personally I don’t think he will be ready to replace Reynolds in time. I don’t think it’s fair for him with that kinda pressure too. Like I’ve said before, we do not need a Lachlan Illias situation where the boots were just too big to fill. He deserves to develop in his own way and on his own time and this club doesn’t have time anymore since Reynolds is retiring after next season (even if he says otherwise). He’s a great young kid with huge potential and this can only be a positive for him! Excited to watch his journey over the next few years, maybe Reynolds can give him a few pointers next year before he leaves.

We went the safe option with Pezet just hope it doesn't come back to bite us, unfortunately he just isn't at the stage of his career that we could take the risk yet.

I'm not sure Pezet is the safe option. He's young and looks promising but he isn't completely proven. He is a risk, particularly with the collateral of losing Black who might end up better or may end up worse.

He is definitely the safe option of what was available.

if Pezet proves to be a dud early we could still get Black back, where as if we choose Black getting Pezet if it didn't work would have been much harder.

Pezet was a limited time offer kind of deal thus the hoops involved getting him here.
