Friend of mine plays for souths logan so I went to support a bit and I never got the hype in Black to be honest. But good luck to him, hope he kills it. Another friend is a halfback in waiting and is at his third NRL club, its a tough gig.
Yeah agreed. Huge boot but no creativity with it. Lacks playmaking ability and a running threat. Just struggling to see the translation to a gun halfback. He’s young so it’s hard to judge him to harshly but he even left wanting in the same areas he does now in Meninga when comparatively he should have been excelling in all facets of his game over his peers which he just didn’t do in anything beyond kicking on a regular basis.

Thank ****. He didn't even get farewelled at the end lmao.

Imagine losing flegler and palasia thinking that soft **** was the answer.
I wonder if there is a chance we could see Palasia back at the Broncs if Haas does leave?

His Leeds contract is up in 2026 and he is only 28 now…

Payne’s R360 decision could have massive implications for us. If he does in fact sign anytime soon there is every chance the NRL says he isn’t playing here in 2026 and I assume that means we won’t have to pay him a cent. We would then have 1.1m-ish to spend.
Obviously hope he stays but wtf do we do if the nrl tells him to pack his bags now? Tino?
Or does he just not re-sign with us (or anyone) and let him contract with us finish up at the need of 2026 and then walks into R360?

I would hope he would at least be able to play with us for 2026 after all he is contracted with us for then.

If the NRL say he can't play with us in 2026 they are effectively causing him to break his contract with us which doesn't make sense.

The shadow of R360 could potentially make this an off season like no other.

Just so I can understand this .. players like Paps if they are under no contract, can they not leave for 360 and come back any time they like? Or will the proposed punishment still apply?

I think media are just guessing... like NRL have no grounds to ban them if they dont even have a contract with them.

I agree but someone should have a face to face interview with Vlandy's and get this sorted clearly.
Shouldn't be that hard unless he wants to do some smoke and mirrors with the whole issue.

It's a great question. What is some unknown 19 year old in a rugby system signs with them, it falls over in 2 years and then he wants to play NRL. Is he banned for 10 years? Or is it only recognized stars that get banned?

This is the NRL, and we are the Broncos.

If Payne signs for R360, the NRL will ban him from playing for us next season, but still find a way to make us carry his salary on the cap ;)

I Have zero doubt that the nrl will put their foot down for haas and set a real example using the broncos club before going on to find money to help other clubs and cut the ban because "wr have to fight this thing....."

After 15 years and 300 sydney based players get the funding we will need it for another player than the media will rant for 6 months about our unfair advantage with the dumbass sydney sheep forcing the nrl to stop it..... then it will get reinstated for another sydney player....

"ItS sO UnfaiR"... said the same sydney fans who complain we play redcliffe in brisbane.

technically speaking, players who are on long term "suspensions" are still on the club's books for the duration of the suspension, so if the nrl wants to screw us the legal technicality might still be there. I suppose it comes down to how they ban him for 2026. But screwing us doesn't really deter future r360 defectors, we are bending over backwards trying to stop them from leaving.

If they banned Haas then they'd negotiate a release and he'd get a kickstart on his union career.. most likely with the Reds to stay close to home... so they'd just be giving free publicity to the ARU

I think the NRL would be scared about banning him for the 2026 season though.

There's a chance broncos and Haas would take it straight to court, and if they win then the 10yr bans will be found as bullshit and potentially open the floodgates because the deterrent would be gone.

NRL will be wanting to hold onto that deterrent for as long as possible by keeping it out of the courts, because there's every chance the comp falls over within a season or so and then they just lift any bans and bring anyone who left back.

While I selfishly want to retain players like Payne, the only justification for banning code switchers is if you can show you've invested money in them, and for that reason they remain indentured to you, like slaves.

It's a dick move that makes the NRL look insecure and weak. It's also hypocritical, given how they'd love to pick the eyes out of other codes.

V'landys needs to be the bigger man and treat each contract as fresh.

The philosopher, Selena gets it:

No, but screwing us does indeed screw us, and that appears to be the NRL's second favourite thing to do 😉

The NRL just try to cash in on both the love and hate for this club, we are the biggest draw and cash cow for the competition, loves us or hates us we bring in the viewership.................our milkshakes bring all the boys to the yard.

I wonder if the NRL can squeeze the lemon with the salary cap to retain some of these players. I don't understand how a new code with no base can swoop in and disrupt the player market of a well established business like the NRL.

How have they let it happen?
