Old mate celebrating the Walsh forward pass 😆

He has his critics but Riki will be forever a broncos legend for that one play alone. Simultaneously breaking some many storm players, staff and fans in that one moment.

Huge credit to him for actually taking the game away from them instead of hanging off waiting for a knock-on or dead play hit up like the rest of the team seemed to be doing

There was a camera angle from the stands and Riki starts moving into the defensive line as soon as the ball starts heading out towards Katoa.

He knew a desperation spread back across the field was coming.

I'm hoping he knew that all that was needed was to knock the ball down as well... and not also needing to take possession.

Had a little relfection moment the other day of being in the pub watching the game.

The random people hugging, my daughter asking why I’m in tears, rereading the live game thread and then the presentation of medals and the trophy.

How about them Broncos!

What do you mean?

The ball is still live unless Riki ends up with it.

Time was expiring so if Riki just gets there and volley balls it 20m back towards the halfway line or knocks it down then he just needs to dive on it or just turn it into a mess... the ref would then have to call an error and time is up game over.

He took the ball cleanly, but if Katoa passes it 15m instead of 30m into his arms, then I hope that his original thought was to just be in the line, make a nuisance of himself and just be looking to knock the ball down to kill the game

Yeah but he still needs to wrap it up and die with the ball in that case. If the Storm regather the ball without making an error themselves, it's still live.

It wasn't so much about the result it was that Riki had started moving up into the line after the ball had moved away from MacDonald.

You couldn't really see it from the televised angles... I just saw it on Insta as one of the crowd posted videos.

The rest of that edge started going back the 10m, but Riki was clearly watching the ball and had an intent of getting himself into the line.

It would not be something you do in the 60th minute, but I like to think that he was aware of it being in the 80th and this was the last play so it didnt matter how he got to the ball only that he did and that it would shut the play down. It didnt matter if he knocked it on, batted it down, etc. just get hands to it or tackle someone as soon as they caught the ball.

It ended up being that he got the intercept, but he was clearly going there with an intent and not just stand on his edge and see if they come spreading back and trying to deal with it then.

I feel like it was great awareness from him and not just dumb luck that it happened to fall into his hands.

Don't think this was the original one I saw but it's a crowd one where you can see that Riki doesnt retreat back and he starts to move into the line seeing it coming.

Headgear Riki is a totally different animal from normal Riki. I don't even pretend to understand but I'm here for it! I've been very critical of him but he really stood up the back end of this year, credit to him and presumably the coaching staff also working on his weaknesses. I hope to continue to see him improve, he's such a likeable lad, I want to see him do well and I want to see him do it here with us.
