2026 NRL General Discussion Thread

I think there is an argument. Who would want to go to Perth with all the travel time for the same coin you can get here.
Maybe some players who think they're not getting a go or younger guys not prepared to wait.
Perth is a shithole, I have no idea why any player would go there. You would have to have no other options.

Man, I love Perth, especially around the Freo area. I would happily take my family there for three years if I had any sort of footballing ability - 500K plus would be very tempting.

If I had a choice between living in Melbourne or Perth, it's Perth in a heartbeat

Wow a little harsh on Perth.
Only been there once but I thought it was a beautiful city. The Fremantle area was a standout too.
Each to their own I guess.

Just when you thought the West Tigers might just be heading in the right direction ... the ineptitude of that club rears its ugly head again.

chair Barry O’Farrell and three fellow independent directors were sensationally dumped from the board by the club’s majority owner the Holman Barnes Group.

Their biggest issue was apparently the design of next years home jersey. it's too orange and resembles the Balmain jersey's too much. there is reportedly a secret push to return the Western Suburbs Magpie to the NRL.

Vlandys and the NRL are now reportedly investigating the issue and have been urged to step in to resolve it.

The reports suggest that CEO Shane Richardson is now considering his future of the club.

The reports also suggest that this ineptitude has put contract negotiations with Jarome Luai and Jahream Bula are now in peril ... if Perth were smart they'd get on the phone to these guys

here is some discussion from Joel and Fletch

The smartest thing for the NRL to do would be to take their license off them because they’re an embarrassment to the competition, but I would miss the laughs if I’m being honest.

lol... if your CEO leaves the club by walking away rather than being sacked / "full support of the board"... then you know you're in trouble as a club.

Tigers are seriously ****ed as a club... joke team
that's why people have been giving my mum strange looks because of her team sucks. Members want refunds they aren't doing that last i checked they had 14 thousand members. I am grateful we aren't having any issues 🙏🏻

I thought I read somewhere the rules committee raised this but the NRL knocked it back.

Don't hate this.

Definitely something they should do, but the NRL are too stupid to actually do.

One issue from it is that if a player is taken out illegally from foul play then the team that loses that player doesn't necessarily get compensation other than the penalty/sin bin/send off... i.e. the offending team gets penalised, but they can still access their extended bench whereas the other team is down a player.

If they go with the 4 players rule, then you could make it that they get access to a 5th player... so that probably fixes that pretty quickly.

Ben Elias as new Tigers Chairman... ****ing lol... Tigers are speed running to de-registration at this point... gotta feel for their poor old fans

At least he would try and get stuff done, he cares about the club and isn’t afraid to call them out.

He's apparently sent them near bankrupt twice... below is from a tigers fan on Reddit.

Benny Elias helped bankrupt Balmain. Twice.

Once as a player by having the club pay him in real estate they were holding, the second time through his involvement in Rozelle Village, which tied the club to a development application which was knocked back at all three levels of government.

Isn't he also related to Isaac Moses... cant see how that would go badly.

Tigers fans are losing it over there... most claiming it as a ploy from HBG to look like they still care about Tigers but promote the worse candidate possible so they get their man in... or put a Balmain person in charge so they can send it down the shitter and help their cause of bringing back the magpies

Yeah...that'll end well. Blocker in some senior capacity as well? Benny is dodgy as ****.

What an absolute cluster **** that place is. They finally start looking like they're turning it around and HBG decides to just blow it up for fun. The Magpies aren't coming back, at some point that will sink in I guess.
