OFFICIAL Payne Haas to depart Broncos at the end of 2026

Do ALL parties have to agree to waive the cooling off period? Or can the player just waive it and then it’s all said and done?

What a ball breaker before a ball is even kicked in anger for 2026..

Fair bit of hate towards Hass here which I understand but so much of this comes down to the blokes managing them, they are all crooks and are in it for themselves more than anything.

Will Brisbane look to use that 10 day period to counter as the post said he has informed them.he is looking at leaving, not he is leaving, but definitely a foot out the door!

Feel Hass will also be going to a Souths side that will be with a pretty inexperienced spine by the time he gets there?

I think this is a good thing

I'm tired of the circus every second year regarding will he sign or won't he.

We have had his best years. Signing him on huge money for any length of time is a big gamble moving forward as he gets older.

Broncos legend? Not in my eyes, nobody becomes a legend when they leave at 26 years of age.

Toodles Payno

Couple thoughts for me from this:
- Haas was part of the core that broncos were going to build around... that being Reece, Patty, Ezra and Payne... with one of that core gone it means broncos can focus on who joins it instead, notably Pezet or Mozer.

- There were concerns around how we might be able to pay for one of them if they exploded... thoughts turn to spending Payne's money on another prop, but we've just opened up the cap if we need to lock down another spine player.

- The development of Willison becomes vital now. We saw him play 80mins last year vs the dogs when Payne and Patty were both out, so we know he's got it in him. Does the club now look to promote him to starting to get a head start on 2027 onwards... most likely at the detriment of the bench impact as Talty and Jensen aren't bringing anywhere near the same level of impact.

- We have to start looking after Patty... he had a down year last year and we don't want to see a decline in him from over use. With Payne going he undoubtedly becomes our forward leader... this is on top of potentially being captain as well. Jurbo is an absolute shell of his former self and he was 30 last year... Patty is already 28. The coaching needs to figure out a way to reduce his minutes so he can stay an effective player well into his 30's.

- One other thing now is that we are in the market for more middles. We won't be able to replace Payne, and out of the current middles I'd say AFB is probably the closest to bringing the same impact, footwork and endurance that Payne brings, but he's already post 30 as well. I'd be tempted to look younger and try to find young gun middles coming through and get them early. We've got a few on the books already, including what looks to be an absolute stud in Tupou Francis... let's make sure he's locked up and start with his development to see what we've got there. We may already have what we need inhouse, which is the normal broncos way of doing things.

Only the player, I believe. The player via their manager can waive the cooling off period at any time within the 10 days but after those 10 business days it becomes binding if not waived

Not sure I really want Keaon... he's a workhorse, but didn't necessarily have the explosiveness.

Someone like Naufahu Whyte is who you'd want as a young prop coming through... rorters have a few young guys and they can't fit them all in.

I know they just locked Whyte in, but they've got other young guys.
Could monitor how Pahulu goes down at storm... we've also got BTK, Francis and other young guys who now know there's no Payne Haas sitting in front of them.
Tawha sounds like he might be something under Madge.
Has that mongrel in him that Payne didn't have, took on Whyte and Spencer

The 1.2 mill has to be BS.
If we were offering the same and he has delayed signing for the last month then Souths walk in last week, slap 1.2 mill on a contract and he signs within a few days. Yeah right.
Media are supporting this fantasy too because they love the Broncos getting a kick in the peaches.

Way more composed than me mate, im cursing his existence right now. Dude could have gone down as one of the greatest Broncos to play the game, one of the most incredible one club legends of all time.
But nah, wants to join Fatrell and Fifita.
I get the annoyance, I really do. But since 2023, every contract has been a circus, the talk of every contract has been a circus, all the while he kept saying he didn't want to leave. But the stories and noise kept coming.

Full respect for what he has done on the pitch for us, but this has unfortunately been a chance of happening since the stunt he and his manager pulled mid season 2023.

This is just how it goes now.

Well apparently it’s Bennett who leaked the story….it has to be bs.

On the length of deal, I doubt its the Broncos that were pushing only a 1 year deal, that would have to have been coming from Haas camp to keep R360 options open and possible salary increases with cap going up, no?

Seen a few things now that oh its because Souths offered 3 years and doubting very much we wouldn't have wanted to lock him down for more years if he were open to it.

What’s heartbreaking for me is he was looking at singing one more year with us but instead he signs 3 whole years with a Sydney team. 3!!!!
I'm thinking there must be options and various things in there to be signing for that length.

Payne has been a 3yr contract player ever since his 6yr deal... it keeps him flexible to the market and salary cap.

There would be ratchets in there for the CBA in 2028 and potentially a PO if he wants to test the market after the cap goes up.
