In fact prior to 2025, the number of wooden spoon teams with Payne Haas exceeded the number of premiership teams with Payne Haas.

I think I read yesterday they’re going to extend him till end of ‘28, so that ends speculation of him joining PNG. I assume they’re extending him to make sure Payne stays. But surely that can’t be the only clause…

These guys are only interested in making Bennett look good. The can start here and then spin it into "After going through another one of Michael Maguire's torturous pre-season's, Payne had had enough. Everyone thought of JT(Tamulalo that is) as a player that will stay dominant for his entire career. Contrary to that thought, he has been a shadow of himself the last few years.

Though Haas is one of a kind of prop, history tells that he can’t be dominant in years to come. So, I’m content with him playing this year “focused” but that’s about it really. Don’t want this shenanigans with him every time he renews his contract. This circus has to stop. Period.

We’ve an entire year to plan his absence so I’m sure we’ll come on top. As a bonus, we can use his cap space to top up OR upgrade some we want to keep.

I disagree, he hasn't always prioritised money, he signed that six-year contract in 2018 and his value was a lot more during those six years.

Really a six-year contract for him was bad business. It's great money considering he'd only played three games, but he pretty soon went past that value, and it became in the Broncos favour.

That was 3 million over those six years, that's great value from the Broncos.

Then he upgraded in 2024 until this deal ends in November. He's signed two deals at the Broncos in his career.

The part that fits his MO is changing, he's been at the Warriors, Titans, going to sign with Souths, going to sign with Storm, played for the Broncos and now signed with Souths.

The only thing he is missing is the might change to boxing thing.

The money at Souths will be comparable to Brisbane, that's the RL ceiling at the moment- 1.1-1.2. No one is giving more than that.

I agree it doesn't look good, but once he made his decision the next time they're all together is the launch and then airport- neither of them are ideal to make an announcement either.

I think he wanted them to know straight away, if it had leaked out on Sunday before he'd seen them on Monday it looks worse.

That's true, I understand it's hard to get them all together. I would have hoped for a group whatsapp call with the leadership group at the least. Show your face, Payne.

Oh well, the next 8 days will be a mess.

Anyone done a welfare check on Jonah? As a seven, Payne would have been a big reason I wanted to come to Brisbane and play behind him.

Payne was a seven's dream.

I think he’ll be fine behind Patty and Willison and whoever else we may buy with that money, but you keep throwing speculation out there.
