OFFICIAL Payne Haas to depart Broncos at the end of 2026

They haven't been replaced. Your back five have taken on the load out of your end, so your front row doesn't have to truck it off his own line, but they haven't replaced him when you're over halfway. Cleary doesn't give the ball to To'o when he wants to get to a spot.

When Reynolds wants to get to the 50 or the far post to attack 30 out it's Payne that gets him there.
I swear you don't read posts before negatively commenting on them.

Bennett's mouth pieces have already put out in the media that "Haas left ‘furnace’ for Bennett"

Something happened in Toowoomba is my call.
Friday the manager was talking doing a deal at the Broncos . Sunday he`s gone .
2 weeks away from home after the Pacifica camps might have been the straw that broke that camel`s back .

Is this the Madge burn out syndrome ?

Skeletor is just trying to stay relevant.
You’re like 80 years old and haven’t won shit in nearly 20 years.
Retire.

He didn`t make Payne`s manager negotiate solely for Rabittohs .
If the manager had shopped him to other clubs it would have been news and a bidding war would have broken out .
Bottom line Payne wanted out and made up his mind to go to Souths over a weekend .
Something pissed him off ....

Circus? We only found out about this two days ago it's not like it's been a massive protracted thing playing out for months in the media. If we pull it out of the fire and he re-signs with us it's barely a blip.

I dont really get the mercenary talk about him either, he's only ever played for us and has earned every upgrade he's been given.

Its a circus with him every time his contract his up pretty much, not just this time. We would have been negotiating this for months, so for him to not sign by November 1 obviously he's wanting things we werent willing to offer. I dont believe for a second he is the type of player we lowball. As for it not playing out in the media, we as a club dont do our contract business like that. Payne's management do though.

I wouldnt call him a mercenary personally, but him and his management like to drive the narrative about him loving the Broncos so much yet they play games at contract times. Dont blame him for wanting to earn as much as he can, but dont dress it up as anything else. Everyone know money talks in sport. There is also the fact that we have a cap to manage. We cant just keep upping one players salary when we need a balanced squad no matter who it is. I dont believe there is much compromise on the contract from Paynes side.

Mercenary would be harsh, but leaving the club without a payrise after we just won the comp does make you feel like he's not a true believer, which puts him at odds with pretty much everyone here.

I don't hate him for it though. I've been in workplaces for less time and felt stale, so if he does just want a change of scenery I would understand it.

Sometimes though you cant simply give everyone a payrise. I'd say for example, Shibasaki is way more deserving of a payrise than Haas.

I find it hard to believe that any manager with Payne Haas offers him to only one club in Sydney and for allegedly the same money he was already earning in Brisbane. He could have written his own cheque in Sydney if clubs knew he was available. Even if his heart was for some reason set on going to souths, whats the hurry, why didn’t his manager leverage it against other offers that would surely have been available in Sydney? But of course the narrative is on why the broncos lost him.

Emotional decision .
Fck you Madge ! I`m going back to Uncle Wayne .

Something happened last week for him to make such a hasty decision .
Also if the Broncos wanted they could just waive the cooling off period . So they think maybe it can be negotiated .

Here’s another angle to add to the mix.. It might sound strange but this is the one I hope is true.. Because imo the Broncos doing this - ie putting a value on Haas and not budging from that figure - would show me that the club is on the right track as far as the long term management of its salary cap and sustained success

It would also strongly suggest they have a succession plan

Hahaha yeah I hope this 5 year thing is a complete fabrication.

He's going to get himself booed again with a whole year left to play.

Good one Payne and his manager. These journos will take any chance to jab at Broncos and Madge, and he would know that having been here for years, having been here for a spoon, and having copped it the last time he pulled this shit.

So yeah, running it back seems smart.

Especially if he kept wanting to renegotiate every year, then wanted the option of R360. Like at some point the club has to say cmon mate, we have a whole cap to plan.

The journos are hilarious though.

You're telling me 48 hours ago Weidler didn't have a clue this was even happening, (he would have posted something if he did) but now all of a sudden after the fact, he has sources galore to confirm we low balled. What a crock of shit.

If true, the only plausible explanation I have for them offering less is that they didn't want to ruin their salary cap trying to retain Payne when they have a lot of young, emerging talent coming through - Wilson, Tekura etc.

There was talk last year that Patty needed an upgrade and he's already on $750k.

And whilst we have Walshy locked in until the end of 2029, his value will only continue to increase particularly, if he continues producing Clive Churchill medals.

Kenty is also contradicting Wielder and saying that the Rabbits only needed to match the Broncos offer.

I find the timing of all these leaks interesting given that the Broncos are on a long haul flight to the UK and aren't able to respond.

Nothing screams ‘weak club’ like one that’s willing to be dictated to by one player.. no matter how good that player is
That’s why this 5 year offer is crazy. I understand they could be panicking and desperate to keep him but the team doesn’t revolve around him, they need to have faith in the other players that they can replace him. It pains me to say because I do love Payne, but It’s time we exit this circus once and for all.
