This doesn't make sense. Absolutely and utterly NO ONE in the league world knew a thing. No leaks, no nothing, until apparently Wayne leaked to the media. There was no circus, there was "It's been done bye".

There are a lot of things we don't know and have no right to know when it is private and family related. This is a big move so you would have to assume it has been going around in his head for a while. Did it happen so late because he wanted to make sure it was the right move? Was he conflicted as it is the best move for his family but he is leaving the premiers, he says in his interview that he needs to be a leader for his family so is that what he is referring to? Did something happen with his family over the weekend or while he was away which made him go "ok we have been thinking about this for a while and this event settles it"
Who knows, we probably never will but at least it is all done now and we can move on, or as much as the media will let us at least.

I feel like it was the best way to get the message out before it got leaked... which Wayne did straight away.
Next time he was seeing the full playing group was at the season launch the next day and it was already everywhere.
Only things I'd be annoyed about is potentially not calling the coach, captain or Patty... but maybe he did and that's just not been leaked as yet.

Well usually you hear the stories about they address it at training or in the dressing room, first time I have heard about it over Whatsapp but all good.

It is what it is, I'm ready to move on now. Don't rate or read into his statements too much, but it at least shines some light on the bs raised by the journos. (Lets be honest, even if he was actually off Madge, he was going to say he wasn't because he still has to play this year, and still wants to win a comp this year).
He's said something because it got to the point where he and his team probably felt he had to, in order to try and stop him being booed this year, just my opinion.
If they've now waived the cooling period, lets move on, win a comp this year and find some good ways to spend the huge money we've just had clear up in 27'.
Realistically, if the end goal is still R360, and his Mrs fam is in NSW, it makes a fair bit of sense he would want her to be settled, and closer to her family before he is jetting around the world to play in this Rugby comp. Can't begrudge him for that.

Grandpa Wayne leaked the information. It started spreading, Payne didn’t know what to do then, so he sent a group text. He knew he would see them the next day and fly out together so he possibly could’ve just thought that was sufficient. I think in his mind he would’ve told them while they were overseas. But Wayne and Co pulled the rabbit out the hat and wanted to blindside literally everyone and ruin their club launch and decided to leak it.

I mean if he is going to head off to R360 then moving his family to Sydney where I think him and his partner have family support is probably more appropriate.
Qld it's his immediate family and parents in jail... he'd basically be jetting off overseas and just dumping everything on the wife.
It's probably about his partner's family more than anything and if they're all in Sydney then that makes sense

That's fair I didn't think of it like that. It's funny isn't it, Wayne is apparently such a great man manager and confidant to Payne yet his desire to **** with The Broncos overrides any respect to Payne to be able to tell people in his own time. Great guy.

It's funny right. It certainly seems that Bennett has started all of this leaking, which caused all this bs. This is the guy Haas apparently wants to tie himself to. Benny (it seems) just couldn't wait to get it out there that he got one over the Broncos. That would piss me off if I was Haas, especially if you hadn't even told your teammates yet.

Cooling off period has been waived.
Had been working on it for like 9 months, but only a handful inside knew anything on the actual deal... so there's a lot of peanuts getting thrown from the back row who dont really know anything.
Indicated that R360 was big in the media, but it probably did play a part.
- I'd say an interpretation of this is that a deal probably gets done ages ago (3yr deals reported in the media), but the money around R360 had him thinking and stalled things... I'd say from that point onward Haas wanted a contract and situation that allows him to do R360 if it gets going
Indicated that any deal with broncos was leading to it being a short term deal.
That's probably not all of it, but things I took away... they'll probably put it on YouTube at some point

I thought that I read somewhere middle of last year that his mum was trying to get moved down to a Sydney jail. Not 100% sure, but I believe that she is going through Mental Health Court rather than a normal Court. If that's the case she'll probably be granted a transfer. Her lawyers are also Sydney based, and that's what they were using a reason for the requested transfer. I think Payne has been thinking about this move for alot longer than we realised.
9 months??? Thought they only started discussions once Koloamatangi was gone. Was that their plan all along, to let him go because they were already going for Haas this whole time?
It’s disappointing that his negotiations with broncos was only ever going to be for a short term contract while at the same time he discussing longer with Rabbitohs, I assume broncos didn’t want to add any clauses like Rabbitohs? I guess we’ll never know.

Appreciate Haas putting out a statement clearing up the BS about Madge. No doubt Crawley and other hacks of his ilk will still drive their agenda to attack him though.
