State of Origin Changes Forever

Who gives a **** if it helps NSW or QLD? It helps the international game, and that's the point.
How exactly? It only helps NZ. Tier 2 nations could already play SoO, it doesn't help England.
So the intention of the rule change was to help NZ? or NSW?

I wonder if part of the reason behind this is they are expecting Samoa and Tonga to be elevated to tier 1 status?

Tier 1 has nothing to do with results... you become a Tier 1 nation based on grass roots footy structures and I think if you have a competition setup in the country, which can includes having a team in the NRL ie NZ via Wahs

Based on that Tonga and Samoa are likely to never become Tier 1.

PNG would be more likely to become Tier 1 because theyll have a team in the NRL in a couple years

Probably been said but SOO hasnt been a australian side selection game for ages good move to get with the times

I really just don't give a shit about origin anymore. Every year I'm happy if we win, but it's more just hoping Broncos don't get injured..

If they could find a way to not have it just kill the middle of the season I'd be more interested.

It's to make sure players who want to represent another nation, still represent that nation, and can play SoO. So someone like Radley, can play for England and Origin. That makes England a stronger team, which means the international game is better.

It's super simple stuff that even a football player would understand here right?

Sure so England get Victor 🙄
Victor was already playing for England and Qld get access to AJ outside of those 2 I can't think of anyone else and the chances of pommies coming over here before the age of 13 is ****all.

It's more that someone won't have to consider their international eligibility tied to their ability to represent their state.

The vast majority of professional League players come through NRL, and pretty much all of them come through Qcup or NSW cup as soon as they get to Australia.

They learn everything they know about footy through the state comps so those guys have serious passion for the state that made them who they are as football players.

This now separates having to choose between playing for the international team they feel strongly for OR the state comp that taught them everything about footy and are equally passionate about.

This could weaken Samoa and Tonga more than anything else, while strengthening NZ. Players can now choose NZ without losing that sweet Origin payday.

Victor couldn't choose England AND NSW. That's the entire point.

Who cares if it's **** all? One day it will help QLD too. So what if it's not now, it's a chnage that should have been made decades ago.

I'd actually go further and say this rule hurts international footy (not helps it).

Under the current rules many players with duel NZ / Pacific island eligibility have been choosing the Pacific island countries because of the ability to also play origin.

Under the new rules players may not make that same decision because it won't affect their origin eligibility if they stick with NZ, and sticking with NZ gives them a greater chance at winning in the international arena

So you agree with me. NSW is the beneficiary
