Broncos Roster, Signings and Rumours Discussion 2026

Wouldn't be shocked if there was some truth to that. Anderson is probably a better cover as well in the sense that he can cover center, fullback and wing. Arthars could to an extent, but he is primarily a winger.

I like Jesse, but when I look at how our 2 wingers performed at the end of the last year, barring injury, he isn't getting a sniff.
I trust Arthars at centre more than I trust Anderson

It makes sense that Arthars might request a release... he's in a contract year and wants to be playing.

Broncos are the losers in this situation though. We've got a great player sitting in our depth, that could be next man up if something happens.

It doesnt benefit us to release him except getting some cap space back, but we've paid 4 months of that already.

I would say it becomes more palatable to us if we loaned him out (but can call him back if injury struck)... or maybe even we'll release him, but he can't play against us in 2026.

Other than that we're just being nice and deliberately hurting ourselves in a year where we are trying to go back to back

Yeah dunno if I can agree here. Jesse is a better winger, but Anderson gives us better/similar cover at center and then he can cover fb too (Which I just don't think Jesse can).

I didn't watch too many non-Broncos games over the last year or so, but how has Anderson actually gone as fullback? I hope we aren't over-estimating an ex-Storm player. I know Arthars has played one or two games for us at Fullback and didn't set the game on fire, but besides his injury-disrupted season last year he's been a genuine gun since 2023. I know it's selfish to keep him if he had an opportunity elsewhere, but I'd hate to see a player of his ability let go, and then cop an injury or two that could completely screw up our season.

Poor fcking Jesse was in Origin camp all week then got released to play FB .
No training with the team , just boom your wearing #1 this week Jess .
Results were not surprising .

You're making it sound like I hate Arthars. As I said, I actually like him but he is too good to be playing backup, but not sure he is better than what we have.

Even when he was in the team people mentioned how he would often get pushed backwards on the 1 and 2 carry. Which are vital for set starts. At the back end of last year we didn't seem to have that issue with our wingers.

They've signed Anderson for a reason, so if Jesse is even further down the list now it makes sense he may want to move.

I think most would be in favour of letting Arthur's go if it helped us bolster our forward depth.

The good thing about Madge is he rewards hard work and doesn't allow players to rely on just talent. Helps in finding some players that might not be as talented but work their ring off

I love Arthars and I would like to keep him but given we have some real potential coming through the lower grades and we have signed Anderson we can afford to let him go if required. Our focus now is to secure the key players in the side coming off contract and look into boosting our forward depth.

For me when the Broncos have been successful it's been the right balance of talent and the hardworkers who don't take their position for granted. Take the 1992 side. For all the Steve Renouf's, Kerrod Walters and Glenn Lazarus top tier players in your side you need counterpart players like Chris Johns, John Plath and Mark Hohn who you know when called upon won't let you down. Our worst years have been when we have spent way too much on our top tier level and our retainment ability and depth suffers as a result.

And Karapani isn't established either. He was amazing end of last year but was it a purple patch or is that his level now? We need time to see.
I think the biggest improvement we saw from him was in the error department and that comes from hardwork. His always had potential in attack and making big metres but he also has had a history of producing a lot of simple errors even before joining the Broncos. It could have been a purple patch yes. But I reckon if he works hard and can keep that error count down he will be fine.

Arthars is a winger, I'd say even a bit better than Anderson on the Wing, but he cant play Fullback or Centre
Perham did not impress during last weeks Trial, maybe he improves this week or maybe not.
That leaves Anderson, solid on the Wing, solid as a Centre and solid at Fullback from what I've seen, best choice of the 3.

If Arthars wants to go, I would let him. He has been a good servant to the club, in and out of the side like a yo-yo in recent times, but now it seems like he will be battling to make it in outside of injury coverage. That isn't fair on him.
