2026 NRL General Discussion Thread

The Police from the anti-gang squads believe the former Bulldogs and Wests Tigers player was an innocent casualty in an escalating gang war, and are probing his son’s connections to a notorious crime family.

Utai’s son, Iziah, was described as an associate of the notorious Alameddine crime family after he was charged over gun and drug offences in 2023 by police investigating drug supply around Parramatta.

Iziah Utai, in June that year, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to at least nine months in prison without parole for possessing guns and ammunition, including a shortened pump-action .22 rifle.

He had been arrested at his Toongabbie townhouse by the anti-bikie police squad Raptor, who are now investigating his father’s shooting.

It’s unclear whether Iziah Utai was at the home at the time of the shooting. Matt Utai has no criminal history and is not believed to be involved in criminal activity, according to Hart.

JD has put his hand up to return to the NRL with the PNG Chiefs ... now Willie Peters has reportedly put his hand up to coach the Chiefs

Its interesting that in the ESL, they are all now wearing mouth guards that flash when an impact above a certain g force level occurs. I wonder if the NRL might bring something like this in.

The impact from a hit up from the kick off can be equal to a car crash .
Gonna have a lot of players on the sidelines .

Doesn`t need to be contact with the head to cause concussion that is only very slight . It`s the recurring micro injuries that add up .

AFL have a class action coming up . Just time in the game equals eventual CTE from constant collisions .

Yep no doubt to all of that but any player goes in to this sport has to clearly show they understand the risks of playing. That said, if this tech is available and the NRL doesn't adopt it, that potentially opens them up to further litigation you would think.

They've had them in the USA Rugby comp for a while.

Parramatta's legal team have pulled off a power move in court which has again delayed the Lomax hearing.

Parramatta want to cross examine Matt Tripp, who has left for Vegas for round 1. They successfully argued that they would be disadvantaged if Matt Tripp appeared via video link instead of in person.

the court has given them permission to question Matt Tripp on March 13 after he has returned.

Arthur Moses (Parramatta's lawyer) has revealed two Parramatta officials, believed to be chief executive Jim Sarantinos and head of football Mark O’Neill, had cancelled trips to Las Vegas so they could give evidence in person.

Assuming Lomax actually wins his case, he would now be unavailable for round 1 and round 2.

The Storm play us on March 20 (rd 3)

Parramatta's Legal Counsel, Arthur Moses said:

“Mr Tripp is not only a witness is this case, he is a centre player in respect of this saga,” Moses said.

“He is the one who of course who made the initial contact with Parramatta in respect of Lomax going across to the Storm.

“He is the one who has given comfort to Mr Lomax by having the Melbourne Storm not only reach an agreement with him in respect of him playing with the Storm subject to contractual terms, but also indemnifying him in respect of the restraint that is now being said is invalid.

“Him and his lawyers not only assisted in the drafting of it, but agreed to its terms. He is a strategist behind the matter - he is not a witness. We say he is an actor in respect to this.”
