Welp, we seem to be in an injury crisis. At least it happened early, and with a winnable run of games coming up. It could be worse.

If he doesn't get his shot, he absolutely should go. There is no genuine reason that I can think of for him to not get his run in the next injury riddled period.
If he does though, it's on him to show something because if he doesn't Madge will 100% go with the tried and true Paix/Billy/Hunt trio. Make it hard for them Blake, ffs

It's telling that Madge is using Paix for 80 - and has extended him - rather than call a backup from the bench. I mean, it's great if Paix has that much motor, but it's not like we're short dummy halves.

Yeah but for mine that's because he has seasoned players like Hunt and Reynolds in the team, on the field. He won't have that for the next month or so. All your eggs in the Paix basket would be a bold move
Perham has been strong for Souths, not creating much he just leaves that for Duffy but safe and bringing the ball back and making ground has been his thing.
He's taken on a real Edwards or even Hunt role for Souths. Which is what they were lacking in Sailor and Latrell, and everything has improved this year for the Magpies with a bit of safety back there.

Billy vs Hunt is an interesting conundrum. By the end of the season I felt like I was wrong about both of them. I had Billy as being good for 15 to 20 minutes off the bench and Hunt being the best utility in the game. I didn't rate Billy highly as a ball distributor but he was always good for the odd trick.
When Billy went to 6 I was sure it would be a disaster, but a perfect storm happened:
1. All his time at dummy half had built up his fitness. He had more than enough motor for 80 minutes at 6.
2. Reece took over much of the traditional 6 play-making role, leaving Billy to inject himself only when needed. And then out of nowhere he did something every game that practically won it for us.
3. His years of being pretty much a tacklebot made him safe as houses at 6. Something neither Hunt nor Ezra were.
I don't know whether this translates to him being a decent 6 or whether the build up and cog in the wheel made it click.
Meanwhile, Ben Hunt was underwhelming in both the dummy half and six role. I don't know whether age has slowed him down or if he's just genuinely a 7, who knows the role so intimately he's grown into it like an old shoe.
It's all very confusing right now as the cart has really fallen over, and the apples are all mixed up with the horse shit.

Time for the senior players left to step up and show the resilience we showed last season in the face of adversity wasn't a fluke.

I actually get a sneaky suspicion we are going to absolutely turn it on against the cowboys.

Do we really expect Walsh to be out for 4-6 weeks when he has returned from the exact same injury after 2 weeks in 2023 and 3 weeks in 2024?
