NRL 2026 Round 6 Discussion

There was not a shred of arm wrap from RTS for that Warbrick shot btw. But it doesn't get a mention as it wasn't Walsh etc.

It was a great hit, I loved it. But be consistent

Penrith lose comfortably
Storm lose comfortably
Lord Vlandor intervenes in our game with a makeshift side.

Not that bad of a weekend

On a serious note, looks like Vlandysball has really ****ed over the Storm.
For the last 20ish years they have been the kings of slowing down the ruck, it's ingrained in them, I honestly don't think Bellamy knows how not to Coach that kind of play style.
Over the last few years, but especially this season, the speed of the game has increased so much that they enter a cycle of:
get fatigued
slow down the ruck
6 again called
defend
get more fatigued
slow down the ruck

You love to see it.

Storm won a comp in 2020 and were minor premiers in 2021, which was peak Vlando ball.

He knows HOW they're meant to play, but they're unable to do it.

Their edges are their biggest weakness... they're getting slaughtered out there... and Munster is one of the main culprits. Media won't talk about it, but even the first try tonight was arm grabbing.

Their middles are lacking as well.

It's Harry and Hughes trying to carry this team... Sua is only playing one side of the ball, because anytime anyone gets through the line... he ain't making the tackle. Munster isn't playing either side of the ball... he's basically just there to take dives and try to milk penalties.

It looks mostly like a talent issue for them. For once Bellamy has run out of magic dust to sprinkle on nobodies and turn them into origin players.

RL Eye Test posted this before tonight's game where they were the worst team in the comp at defending repeat tackles/sets.

They conceded 5 more tonight at 8+ tackles according to them on twitter just now.

They are struggling big time currently with the game how it is right now, it's leaving their inexperienced edge combos vulnerable and they're being ripped apart.

Yep after 8 ptbs things can start getting loose... you get 1 quick ptb and head out to the edges because they'll be resembling swiss cheese at that point

Holy shit these kayo ads are so cringe, just show Bellamy presser already

Cooper Cronk just said that the Shiba one to take the try away from broncos was just as bad as the Toia one.

Sorry mate, but you're about to lose your Sydney media pass... not sure even Uncle Nick can save you from that statement

Do you ever get exhausted with this schtick?

That's never stopped them before... usually they just gaslight and pretend like nothing ever happened.

Producer that kept showing the Shiba one will be at Centrelink on Monday as well... you were meant to show Drinkwater jumping into the catcher!!!

When the original "big three" finally left Melbourne, i questioned how Bellamy and his style would go when/if he simply didnt have the cattle anymore. Its ok to flog your team and demand absolute perfection when you have the troops to do it, but when you don't (aka Madge at the tigers) you're beating a dead horse with a stick.

Fortunately for Melbourne since the departure of the big 3, they've managed to maintain a generally star studded side.

Now I'm not saying this is happening to Melbourne at present, but my question still remains about how the Melbourne players react to Bellamy blowing up week in week out demanding better when just maybe they are already at their best and can give no more? Would he have it in him to acknowledge they aren't good enough or would he just keep flogging them?

Many have wondered how he would go coaching the Titans or a different team. Well him coaching a Melbourne side with a growing injury toll, aging star at 5/8, poor diciplined side might be as close as you'll get to that situation.

The storm are losing Wishart and Meaney as well and replacing them with a 30 year old Isaako and probably Shiba who is looking like a one season wonder. Both Shibs and Ice aren't exactly renowned for being defensive geniuses. They were too afraid to make a tough call and let Munster (who is looking dreadful this season) go to allow Pezet to come into the halves. That would have set them up for the next gen perfectly with Pezet getting a few seasons next to Hughes and under Bellamy.

They could become Titans levels of crap once they lose the allure of being in premiership contention every season. No more conning blokes to take extreme unders to move to Melbourne to play under Bellamy and next to a representative spine. I guess they should've invested a bit heavier in Victorian RL

I think its just how the game is now, its just weird because nobody is used to seeing storm like this. It's just a loop in games they (and others) are struggling to break.

You try to slow the ruck, you concede a couple set restarts or penalties (number changes ref to ref and team to team but you get the idea). In fear of giving away more set restarts you start letting the other team play the ball rapidly, negating your ability to produce line speed. 10m set restarts will do that too, but a quick ptb gets a retreating defensive line so metres galore and no front on contact so more quick PTBs.

The first quick PTB then inevitably leads to a great run right behind the markers where all the space is. Another quick PTB usually occurs as its a scrambling legs tackle on the run in behind the marker.

Defensive side is then a mix of compressed having just had to pinch in to cover the middle, and at differing stages of retreating the 10m, so there is gaps galore out wide. Play or 2 later you've got at worse 1 on 1s out wide, or overlaps everywhere against a fatigued backline that for most teams atm have 0 trust in each other.

That same cycle just repeats until a call changes momentum and it begins happening the other way, or the team on top starts dropping the ball. It's just points points points.

Storm, since set restarts came in have always given them away intentionally. But what is happening now is that they are still doing this, but then dropping shitloads of ball, so they never get to batter a team into submission like they are used to. That's just my thoughts on it anyways.

There was so much talk about how amazing the Warriors were, and good on them for breaking that streak, we had our own issues vs Melbourne for years.

But the Warriors weren't that amazing they just lived off the Melbourne errors and man did Melbourne give them some to live off, and you just don't see Melbourne teams do that. As much as they were trying to talk Munster up he looks cooked, he offered nothing in that game, their forwards were rubbish and defensively terrible. Raiders on Friday will be a massive game for them now.

I've always thought Munster was overrated. Ever since he came in he's just run around like a headless chook. Even his teammates don't know what he's doing half the time. His kicking game has always been shit and his defence has always been suss. He's just a competitor in a good system.
